I have been working at MSCI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good hours fair pay. Lots of talented people in the research department. Corporate culture is slightly better than some other rat race financial institutions.

    Cons

"Leadership" = politicians. Some wouldn't think twice to sacrifice junior employees to protect their personal interests. A lot of them are good at managing up, and disregarding down.

    Advice to Management

Get more face to face interaction instead of sending out surveys.

    I worked at MSCI full-time

    Pros

Great company if you are the share holder or if you are the client.

    Cons

If you are a tech person then you will be in the bottom of the food chain. Most of the experienced and talented developers have left and leaving every month.

They are also slowly killing the old culture that made me pick this company when I was looking for a job.

Some senior upper management officers are biased against women devs.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating the lower level employees as Walmart treats the store employees. These are the people who are building your product that you sell.

    MSCI Response

Aug 25, 2016 – Executive Director, Americas Recruitment Lead

MSCI is at its root, a Content, Platform and Technology company. In support of this we have a robust and aggressive Technology strategy which has been wholly endorsed by the Executive Committee and... More

    Pros

Some really good people working there, trying to corral the mess that needs to be straightened out after most of the original talent got chased off by corporate culture changes.
If you're good, you could become a rock star. Beware the dangers that come with that.

    Cons

CEO pushing so hard for cost containment that it is hollowing out the company talent pool. Operates like a small company still trying to make it, not a corporate powerhouse that the marketing slicks show.

    Advice to Management

Talent is not a commodity, and you cannot turn commodity employees into talent overnight.
    Invest for the long run.

I have been working at MSCI (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Established Brand
    Highly recurring subscription business
    Well known data and analytics
    Some smart people
    Some innovation
    Engagement surveys

    Cons

    Living off of its legacy
Lots of overpaid people who were let go from the Street
Lots of vanity metrics and process
Top heavy, inefficient, stagnant management bureaucracy
    Constant fire fighting
Two tiered culture (domestic vs foreign)
    Engagement surveys that go nowhere
    Lack of strategic vision

    Advice to Management

    Can a bureaucracy fix itself?

I have been working at MSCI full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working hours are decent, office views in NY are excellent

    Cons

Terrible culture that stiffles innovation, almost all the talent has left the research team since the research head doesn't know his face from his butt, Henry has surrounded himself with yes-men/women while most of the senior leaders are trying to only protect their jobs, they take the research of younger employees and present it their own, .... Can keep going...

    Advice to Management

Talent requires money and/or freedom. You're not giving either... Also, most of you don't even know your own jobs, it would be good if you tried to learn more and talk less
