    Pros

Great company if you are the share holder or if you are the client.

    Cons

If you are a tech person then you will be in the bottom of the food chain. Most of the experienced and talented developers have left and leaving every month.

They are also slowly killing the old culture that made me pick this company when I was looking for a job.

Some senior upper management officers are biased against women devs.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating the lower level employees as Walmart treats the store employees. These are the people who are building your product that you sell.

    Pros

    Established Brand
    Highly recurring subscription business
    Well known data and analytics
    Some smart people
    Some innovation
    Engagement surveys

    Cons

    Living off of its legacy
Lots of overpaid people who were let go from the Street
Lots of vanity metrics and process
Top heavy, inefficient, stagnant management bureaucracy
    Constant fire fighting
Two tiered culture (domestic vs foreign)
    Engagement surveys that go nowhere
    Lack of strategic vision

    Advice to Management

I have been working at MSCI full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working hours are decent, office views in NY are excellent

    Cons

Terrible culture that stiffles innovation, almost all the talent has left the research team since the research head doesn't know his face from his butt, Henry has surrounded himself with yes-men/women while most of the senior leaders are trying to only protect their jobs, they take the research of younger employees and present it their own, .... Can keep going...

    Advice to Management

Talent requires money and/or freedom. You're not giving either... Also, most of you don't even know your own jobs, it would be good if you tried to learn more and talk less

    Pros

Intelligent and professional people. Good IT resources.

    Cons

Top heavy organisational structure. Little room for promotions. Blame culture. Middle management absorbs most of the work and receives little reward.

    Advice to Management

    Reward experienced staff.

    Pros

Decent work/life balance with four weeks of vacation standard. There's some really talented people. Benefits were decent but going downhill quickly.

    Cons

Top heavy, revolving door management. Archaic policies are stifling innovation and moral. Decreasing benefits and extreme cost cutting measures due to a activist shareholder securing a board seat.

    Pros

Well recognized brand and market leader in benchmark indexing. Decent lateral and geographic mobility especially with more experience. Global presence and strong, diverse client base facilitate the educational process.

    Cons

Senior management is reluctant to get involved with and understand the details of critical products and use cases. Growth in organic businesses (indexes, risk analytics) has been challenging as the company has achieved strong market share with the appropriate clients, but then struggles to innovate beyond the profile of the "typical" client. Instead, growth comes from acquisitions and a lot of pressure around meeting shorter term sales objectives. Efforts would be better spent on medium term strategic planning across all product lines - especially those recently acquired.

    Advice to Management

Engage in more depth with clients. Rather than just paying lip service, understand how clients use the products and what the product shortcomings are. Hold everyone accountable to the success of the business over the medium term: this includes researchers, middle management, and junior analysts. Pay a little more for the associate and VP level client coverage positions and show a higher caliber employee to clients.

I have been working at MSCI full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Earlier strong brand.
    Earlier humane and fair place.
Some incompetent and abusive management has taken their act elsewhere.

    Cons

Competition catching up after morale split apart and productivity down. We can't seem to stay on track and are lucky the market hasn't corrected more. The sales and facilities management often seem just going along for the ride. Especially if there are parties and maybe even a little shopping involved. Horrible behavior and tricky poltics. Sprecial friends of senior managemnt survive by party offering and name dropping. Doing very little work but taking credit. Their incompetent behavioirs are totally allowed. And we've seen them really try to detstroy others who are onto them. A pathetic and careless management allows this. Who knows? Just a tactic to save more money in addition to extreme outsourcing?

    Advice to Management

    Shame on you

I have been working at MSCI full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

New products and the market is good, so easy to try things out on clients.
Some of ineffective senior managers have left.

    Cons

A lot of hurdles. Your basic jungle. A lot of mistrust and secrecy, especially from head office. A lot of unprofessional behavior there and other offices. Home offices face unclear future. People have survived in their shaky roles by charming the visiting management executives, and otherwise just partying when the king is gone. And targeting co-workers. A lot of the people can't easily work anywhere else. What a mess.

    Advice to Management

    Keep trying and try harder
