    Pros

    great work-life balance & flextime
    great colleagues
ambitious firm-- focuses on exciting growth areas and apparently willing to invest in those businesses
    CEO is energetic and candid
    global presence

    Cons

heavy on the paperwork to get any training, travel or expenses approved- it needs to go up 3 or 4 levels of management!
not a lot of space for people with a good idea to 'run with it'-- everything needs to be pre-approved and scrutinized, meaning the company isn't exactly nimble and can't support thought leadership

    Advice to Management

develop a real HR strategy and some form of talent management. eventually, staff with some ambition will get tired of being process monkeys and will look for work where initiative and a focus on personal development are rewarded.

  3. "RiskMetrics, before acquisition, was a good place to work but accountability should have been more of a priority."

    Pros

RiskMetrics culture is one that allows employees to develop through collaboration with other teams. There is no division between groups, but more of a group effort to deliver a product. All offices have an open office layout, making management of all levels completely accessible.

    Cons

RiskMetrics has historically suffered from a lack of focus in delivering superior products. The company has not been good about enforcing accountability. If a project fails, repeatedly, changes are slowly (if at all) effected.

    Advice to Management

It's too late to offer advice to management as RiskMetrics has now been acquired by another firm. One year ago, it would have been relevant to say that the company needed to focus on delivering new products that are superior to what has been pushed out for the past several years and that management changes needed to be made.

    Pros

    Great global footprint.
Smart people in all departments and at all levels.
    Strong strategic focus.
People who know how to deliver strong results.

    Cons

Some very senior managers show no loyalty to staff.
Some emerging markets offices never receive visits from senior managers.
    Loyalty is not evenly rewarded.
Promotions at the highest levels are motivated for reasons other than merit-based.

    Advice to Management

TREAT employees more decently. TRAIN them more consistently. TRUST them to do their jobs.
