Leadership needs fine-tuning
Sep 29, 2021 - Outreach Specialist in Schenectady, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Representing a well recognized health insurance company
Cons
Managers should be trained properly and thoroughly to know all facets of selling both government subsidized programs and quality health plans. How can a true and respected leader lead a team into battle without knowing how to fight or how to use The weapons at hand, But yet he is put in a leadership role where he is absolutely clueless in terms of strategic warfare; ie business leadership,

Leadership weak and turnover very high with management.

Great benefits, very flexible work ours and not much really changes. I love my manager and would recommend her for promotion.
Cons
Executive leadership not visible and company not doing well financially. Strategy is weak and very poor communications. Leadership not seen much in the community. Dave Oliker really much better with community leaders. Employee morale very low.

Never experienced anything like it
Apr 8, 2020 - Leader in Schenectady, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Flexibility, Opportunities to work at home at times, some nice people who are really committed long term
Cons
ZERO mentoring, ZERO Career pathing opportunity, when asked for mentoring by leadership I was told in a meeting with 3 leaders present that I needed to make a decision if I wanted to be available for my children or if I wanted to be in the boardroom. None of the leadership spoke up and said that they felt that was wrong or realized that is illegal to say to someone. It was also prefaced that if the person was asked about making that remark that they would deny it so not to bother to report it. Just all around bad vibes from leadership, they in general do not care about people. There is no opportunity for promotions and if you do apply for them, leadership talks amongst themselves about it and if you applied for more than 1 job, they will not hire you. Hiring is also done based off of networking or butt kissing not capability.

IT not the department to be in at MVP
Jul 7, 2015 - IT Analyst in Schenectady, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Decent pay and benefits, Generous time off. Off street parking. Worked with some great people on both the business and IT side while there.
Cons
Speaking about the IT department here only, as people in other departments of MVP seem to generally be much happier. Layoffs, Forced Ranking on yearly reviews, Constant Reorganizations, Poor senior leadership. There were constant reorganizations in IT that never met their supposed goals, and just were used as excuses to lay people off or create new positions out of thin air to bring in cronies from previous jobs for the most part. Poor leadership from a lot of IT management. Slow and poor decision making along with poor communication. IT management has had a keep the lights on mentality without a clear holistic view of IT/business integration or how to move the department forward. Management does not empower staff. There is not an open, encouraging, supportive environment, although they like to pretend there is. Ironically, it’s a core value in the department mission statement. I worked with many very talented and hard-working technical staff at MVP over the years that rarely if ever, were recognized by management for their sacrifices or achievements.

- Former Employee, more than 10 years★★★★★
Pros
Great people, very health benefit packages, evolving industry. Great if you are looking for a position where you do your job and meet some great people. If you are a go getting it depends on the department you are working in there are some very forward thinking areas.
Cons
Limited company direction and vision and specific departments are behind the times and lack good leadership.
