    Pros

MWH Global was a group of professional people who were working hard to produce results.

    Cons

When I arrived, the undertone was cost cutting in all areas. People began to leave
either through layoffs or resignations. Now I realize that the management was on track to perk up the balance sheet and income statement to make the business attractive to a buyer (Stantec).

    Advice to Management

Communicate with your staff on a regular basis. Have meaningful discussions. Lay out the plans for the future so that people know what is going on each day.
Take a good look at your management on all levels to make sure that their work ethic is strong and that their skills are sharp. Outsourcing to vendors isn't always the most cost efficient way of doing business.

I worked at MWH Global as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work, life balance even as an intern. Very respectable pay for an intern. Once I proved myself I was treated less like an intern and more like an employee, trusted with increasing levels of responsibility which was nice.

    Cons

Seemed there was a lot of micro management coming from the C-suite. This made it difficult to make deals come to fruition. Business units didn't always work well together, seemed at times they would compete each other out of deals.

    Advice to Management

Give business units the autonomy necessary to see deals through to close. Incentivize collaboration rather than competition between all business segments in order to maximize profits for the company as a whole.

I have been working at MWH Global full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a very solid place to work. The people are friendly, nice, and the work/life balance is great.

    Cons

The Salaries are not market competitive, and growth is limited.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be great leaders, but realize the next generation needs opportunities as well.

I worked at MWH Global (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employees are honest, ethical people all trying to do the best job. Pleasant offices. Engineers are professionals. 401(k) match of 3%.

    Cons

Leadership make unfortunate decisions. One leader is not ethical. Rigid be-at-your-desk policies that are contrary to the current flexible working arrangements; not a good decision for courting younger employees. 401(k) match of 3%.

    Pros

Good technology, some opportunity, if you've networked. There is interesting work available to the 'right' person.

    Cons

It's all about who you know and your personal brand within the company. Plenty of nepotism. Constant reorganization, where the management level keeps growing but the Associate and Professional levels have been decimated in recent years. Good work you've done won't protect you from layoff, and the threat of job loss is constant.

    Advice to Management

Figure out what you're doing and be as ruthless removing dead wood at the Principal and management levels (especially in Broomfield) as you have been at the other staffing levels. You don't need more managers, someone must be left to keep the lights on.

I have been working at MWH Global full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of managers who are great to work for and with. If you are wiling to work hard for the managers willing to mentor you, then you will enjoy your time there. The company allows their employees to obtain training on various skills. Some individuals you work with are an excellent knowledge source. A great way to add to your experience and shine a resume.

    Cons

The company promotes individuals based on favoritism and length of service, rather than skills and hard work. MWH is known for placing employees in management roles who have never had experience with supervising, which frustrates employees who are treated unfairly. Some of the upper management teams do not care about individuals, but rather their pocket books.

    Advice to Management

Treat others like you wish to be treated. Remember that everyone deserves a chance and should be given one. If managers are new to supervising, they should take mandatory manager classes.

    Pros

MWH Global has a professional environment that supports its employees to grow in their talents and skills. Hard work is recognized and appreciated. Coming to work is a pleasure.

    Cons

Long commute, but we have a online tools to ensure that we can work from multiple locations.

    Advice to Management

I worked at MWH Global full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent compensation, benefits. Good people at the Broomfield headquarters. My role did offer the opportunity to work from home when needed, such as during inclement weather.

    Cons

A lack of a focused sales team and strategic focus on the Federal space. Economy quickly dragging down revenue - we didn't seem to have a plan for when the economy shifted other than to abandon ship.

    Advice to Management

The focus always seems to be to reduce costs instead of increasing revenue. Almost like a battle internally regarding costs instead of revenue. Listen to your staff.
