  • There is a tendency accross the university to let PhD students finish the thesis in the unemployment, although this is slowly changing (in 2 reviews)

    Much freedom in structuring the tutorial sessions

    I have been working at Maastricht University full-time

    Pros

    There is a very relaxed and international working environment. In my position I also get a lot of autonomy and flexibility in my working hours/location.

    Cons

    It is a large and bureaucratic organisation. Things go slowly and the average age of the employees is high.

    Advice to Management

    Don't be so afraid to take quick decisions.

    Pros

    great flexibility, great commmunication between departments. very well organized

    Cons

    the supervisor was busy with her own business, sometimes she spared less time than needed.

    Advice to Management

    make sure people who work at the university do not also have priorities that come before the unviersity.

    Pros

    Very international environment
    Ambitious
    Developing strong ties in the region

    Cons

    Many faculty members did not spend time abroad and nor have worked (after obtaining their PhD) as faculty members at other universities in the Netherlands.
    Job mobility is not very high
    Not all units are open to enterprising initiatives
    Many associate more with this school or department than with the university at large

    Advice to Management

    Push for more aggressive course renewal, break the barriers that obstruct new initiatives.

    Pros

    Learned about european and international intellectual property law, regarding trademarks, copyright and patents, as well as China and USA regimes in the field.

    Cons

    I wil finish the master at the beginning of June and currently I am looking for a full time job.
