    Pros

MacDermid is a company with a long history in plating business, so it has relatively stable customers and good repurtation

    Cons

Since the long history of MacDermid, it is very old fashion company. It has hard to time to compete with the new high-tech companies

I have been working at MacDermid full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A very competitive and lucrative business at the very leading edge of Semiconductor grade chemicals for major electronics suppliers. You will be challenged with projects that provide you with skills in an operations environment. With less defined roles, you are able to define the skill set you would like to focus and strengthen for your career.
Great mentor ship if you are involved in specific departments.
The business is high risk/reward and there is always potential for major wins and losses.

    Cons

The projects tend to be difficult to close.
The customers limit the amount of positive change in the business.
Difficult to enter the industry due to learning curve.
Compensation will likely be below market value.
    Limited promotions.

    Advice to Management

Create opportunities and road map's for employees.
Connect with the employees at all levels, not just managers.

Operating the business "the way it has always been run" is no longer the strategy for success.
Think about the long game rather than maintaining the business.

I have been working at MacDermid full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent place to work, people here are kind and the company does a lot for it's employees.

    Cons

For entry level roles, there is little to no room to advance quickly. Job advancement from these positions would take a 5-10 year investment.

I have been working at MacDermid full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Technology offerings match or beat competitors in most spaces
    - Lean company means high job autonomy
    - Profitable company, products add lot of value to customer
    - Solid R&D capabilities with some top-notch people in technical roles
    - I would rate certain commercial managers/directors as excellent people as well as top notch employees (also there are bad eggs everywhere so this is also found)
    - Fellow employees offer help when needed
    - Upper management will take your call and usually offer support if needed

    Cons

    - 401k offering below average in terms of matching %
    - Below average salaries
    - Sales team's engineering support is limited, often salesmen have to be engineers as well due to limited bandwidth
    - You will be sued you if you get layed off and get hired at another company in the industry (non-compete)
    - Very little new customer growth at least in USA as customers are manufacturing economy. Growth comes almost solely through gaining competitor business
    - Long selling cycles
    - Not lucrative commissions structure
    - "Cheap" culture in regards to travel policies

    Advice to Management

In general I think strategic focus is aligned with actual opportunities in the market place.

Work gets stale through daily grind, lead more project based initiatives that require urgency and teamwork to create sense of value in work as well as trust between colleagues.

Trust that your sales and tech service have good relationships at customers and don't try to sell when travelling with them. Instead focus on listening and be there to support the sale by helping to arrange internal resources to deliver the highest value through your salespeople to the customers.
