A culture of empowerment, and a management team that is truly committed to making Macadamian a great place to work.

    Cons

As is typical with most consulting organizations, you can't always control which projects you will be working on next.

    Advice to Management

Great job keeping the lines of communication open.

I have been working at Macadamian full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Working amongst one of the smartest people in the field (we're always invited to be speakers at industry events)
    - Learned more through this job in a few months than my previous role in a year
    - Management and colleagues are amazing human beings. A no "a-holes" type of environment where collaboration and opinions are valued at all levels
    - A lot of work to do but it's meaningful work... it's not a "useless" task... it's work that goes all the way to the top (CEO) and literally saves lives (we are experts in the healthcare field)
    - Great employee events (last month was a golf tournament)
    - Free monthly pizza and breakfast!
    - Free bus passes, parking, days off, sports allowance, RRSP, etc. !!

    Cons

    - There's a lot of work to do as you would imagine from a SME. If you don't want to do work, this is probably not meant for you

    Advice to Management

Keep up with the great work. I can honestly say that I have full confidence with everyone at the higher level -- really smart and passionate leaders.

And the recognition and time spent on other employees are no overlooked and is very appreciated.

It's a fast growing company so more employees are needed but with that being said, Macadamian has a really really bright future.

I have been working at Macadamian full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

above average in benefits (medical, dental, vision, parking or bus pass, sports allowance, eap, best drs)
1 day off a month when no statutory holidays (mac day)
    pizza/breakfast every 2 weeks free
coffee as many as you wish for free
close to great restaurants for lunch and market on Thursdays during the summer
closed for Christmas holidays for 1 week
some awesome employees to work with
all under 1 office coming soon instead of several offices in down-town Hull
learn lots of different technologies and projects
in the past we had every month an activity but less and less in the last year
    great friendships and connections

    Cons

salary less than in similar industry
training budget non existent for years in some depts
no career advancement/growth/opportunities for promotion and no mentoring or coaching
top performers leaving the organization and we cant retain them
no more French in HR only English yet head office in Gatineau
many restructuring and loss of jobs and now all about the #'s instead of our employees being our assets
low morale and has been for years after many restructuring and none from the executive team
a lot of favouritism and office politics
people seem to simply vanish in the last years and no one doing anything about this toxic environment
lots of overtime on certain projects closer to delivering to the client
not all positions can work from home and micromanaged, no trust yet it is one of the values
job not secured and more hired on a contract basis
    no clear strategic direction
2014 was the last year there was any employment awards that should tell you to stay away

    Advice to Management

trust your employees like one of your value states and go back to your other 5 values to distinguish you from your competitors
increase salaries especially for non billable staff just as important as non billable that were increased last year to not loose more of your employees
Mac was an awesome place to work for many years ago, but now we just do our jobs until we all find better, more people leaving the company, so do something or this trend will continue to occur
stop/reduce the favouritism especially with performance reviews
exit interviews are meant to learn from our mistakes not to continue doing the same mistakes and also when different people keep mentioning about the same people that they are hurting the business, then let them go asap regardless of their executive/director/manager position/title

I have been working at Macadamian full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits (medical, dental, vision, parking or bus pass, eap, best Drs, etc)
    Closed for Christmas holidays
1 day a month off on months without any statutory holidays
    Close to restaurants for lunch
Office slowly going under 1 building finally but lots of noise due to construction
    Some awesome employees

    Cons

Executives/directors don't restructure themselves but everyone else unlike other organizations
Morale has been very low for several years now and we are all scared for our jobs especially with employees vanishing and the ongoing restructures
HR and Finance department all new people again and again and can't retain top performers
Salary is lower than most companies
Not all jobs you can work from home
    No career growth
A lot of favoritism and office politics
Must be available to work all the time especially during delivery to clients
    No short term disability
    Internet issues
No training or courses; budget frozen for several years but not across all departments

    Advice to Management

Be transparent like one of your values suggest
Don't take on too many big projects and have to hire and let go on ongoing basis
Allow people to make mistakes and learn from them like your values state
Make the organization bilingual especially when head office in Gatineau with our French employees
Get 1 software for all needs not each department with several not efficient
