I worked at Macdonald & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good atmosphere in a nice central London office with some good characters.

    Cons

No one goes into recruitment to pick up their base and the commission scheme only rewarded the very best billers who I imagine took home some handsome commission cheques. The only people who do this are those that have been with the company 5-10 years (or more).

There is a huge turnover as the younger hungrier consultants realise they can't wait that long in the pecking order and move to other companies with better commission structures that helps these guys with the pressures of living and working in London.

Don't get me wrong, it's not because these guys aren't any good at their job, it's just you can bill quite substantially and walk away with peanuts.

    Advice to Management

Change the commission scheme so it's more attractive to everyone, not just the top 2%.

I have been working at Macdonald & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rightly regularly winning the Times Best 100 Companies to work for, Macdonald & Company values your expertise and dedication, letting you be regularly promoted if your performance warrants it. There are also several perks and rewards on top of a great basic salary and generous commission scheme. If you are looking to work for a recruitment consultancy as a career rather than a stop-gap, then you won't do any better than here. Work-life balance is excellent with no pressure to stay after office hours (assuming you are pulling your weight!)

    Cons

There are pressures to do well and your KPIs are monitored. However, if you are doing your job properly then this shouldn't be an issue.

    Cons

I don't really have any to report. Some frustrations with the sector but this isn't related to M&C.

    Advice to Management

Keep going - I honestly see us continuing to progress and go from strength to strength.

    Cons

commission structure only suits the very top billers. difficult for new consultants to gain a foothold without staying for 18 months+.

    Lots of training

    Cons

    Too much office gossip.
Commission structure is not so attractive with an okay basic.

    Advice to Management

Do a salary survey on current salaries for recruiters and not to manage salaries down for consultants.

I have been working at Macdonald & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working within a Sunday Times Top 100 company you benefit from a reputable and established brand. The opportunity to grow is there, along with the chance to work autonomously. Their genuinely the opportunity to succeed they really reward hard work.

    Cons

Not everyone has the same work ethic, some people do come in at 8.45 and leave on the dot, would be good to see everyone working with the same mind set.

    Advice to Management

The annual Ski trip is a huge reward and a great motivator. However, offer more weekly incentives to recognise on going success and achievements.
