I worked at Macerich for more than 10 years

    Pros

I very much enjoyed working for Macerich. I met a lot of wonderful people during my tenure with the company.

    Cons

Although I work very well under pressure, sometimes upper management would have my department working on various reports not realizing how much work went into each project.

I have been working at Macerich full-time for more than a year

    Pros

We have a great boss on site and it's an easy going work environment on the property level. Friendly co-workers on site.

    Cons

Employees are not appreciated by corporate. Corporate is only concerned with the big picture, not those who get them there.

    Advice to Management

    Notice employee's worth.

I worked at Macerich full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They pay was a bit above average for the position. IT is available for any help you need. Some staff that have been there a long time balance out the whole office. The leasing staff was friendly despite having a lot going on. I liked working with guest services, they are huge asset, and keep a great relationship with the stores that management is ignoring. The maintenance staff was also great, they did their jobs and...

    Cons

Working at Broadway Plaza was a negative professional experience. The environment is negative, management projects an image of perfection and kindness to the staff and the store managers, but their own agenda and expectations are the first priority. When people considered “important” would visit our site, the expectations of perfection by property management were unrealistic. If someone in the office made a mistake during...

    Advice to Management

Regional managers should do some real research into how the store managers feel about Broadway Plaza management. Property management should have more accountability for how the staff is treated. HR should make themselves more available to the staff at different properties. I wanted so many times to approach HR about staff treatment, especially the free overtime and not being able to use sick leave, but I was afraid...

I worked at Macerich full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Wonderful values, nice office, great co workers, great mission statement. Holiday parties are nice.

    Cons

Supporting 3+ people at a time is too overwhelming, felt more like a personal assistant at times than an admin. There are too many egos and personalities to handle for one person. I think some of the people don't realize that this isn't vogue or glamour magazine they're working for, it's property management. One mistake, and they're quick to write you off and make you feel like garbage. Micro managing doesn't exist...

    Advice to Management

You all should have one assistant or realize how much of a workload you put on them. Understand that they try as hard as possible but when you ignore the person that helps you, it becomes less encouraging which leads to a new job search.

    Pros

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Really take a look at your Managers.. just because they have been there for over 10,15, 20 years... doesn't mean they are the best people for the job. I had the WORST experience in one of the Property Management offices. The PM constantly bashed other managers AND employees.. to ME, a new employee (admin assistant).. I can only imagine what they say to their friends/confidants. The Leasing department wasn't any better...

    I worked at Macerich

    Pros

Competitive pay, decent training, company highly values its employees and treats them as true assets. High standards in property upkeep, customer experience, and marketing production. Macerich is a top notch REIT that knows what their doing.

    Cons

Marketing efforts can be stale at times and driven from the top down. Frivilous events with limited payback and traffic generation. Localized creativity can be stifled by corporate marketing objectives. Marketing generates little to no revenue and is the first to go in lean times.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work and keep investing in your employees. Utilize marketing to bring in ad revenue as other management firms do.
