    I worked at Macktez full-time

    Pros

Delicious lunches! Education regarding organizational skills that you can definitely take with you. Some very interesting people to work with although you don't see them most of the time.

    Cons

Management is just bizarre. Like unfathomably bizarre. Literally the strangest people I've ever worked with. See other reviews for what I'm talking about.

    Advice to Management

Separate your hobbies from your work.

I worked at Macktez as a contractor

    Pros

Interesting colleagues abound. Kitchen was often well stocked. They believe in the Getting Things Done method, which is quite interesting.

    Cons

OMG. This place is so strange. Technically sloppy (I would never trust them with my data), careless (I've seen them order mismatching switches and install them anyway), and downright bizarre (they were running a porn site as well, using at least one female employee as an actor).

    Advice to Management

Emotional intelligence matters. You folks are smart from a "how do we charge more hours for this" perspective, but really dumb from a "how do we be good people" perspective.

  3. "Strange place!"

    Pros

Great food. Collegial and casual environment.

    Cons

Owners are 2 very bright guys who have managed to make the business a success despite their sometimes questionable practices. They are masters at running up charges but actually deliver very questionable results; the work product they deliver is not well thought out nor rigorously tested. They are very slipshod about protecting sensitive client data and as a developer who has worked for some of the biggest companies in California before coming to NYC, I was embarrassed to be affiliated with them.

    Advice to Management

Shore up your ethics and start delivering value.

I worked at Macktez full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cool progressive environment where work life balance is strongly encouraged and policies are in place to allow for it. Very cool co workers.

    Cons

You'll spend more time documenting every breath you take than actually working. Or at least that's what they want you to do. Documentation is important but this place takes it unnecessarily far - and the clients get billed handsomely for it too. In any case, their Way of Doing Things is really a huge oversell and I'm surprised that they get away with it. Benefits are somewhat arbitrary - with some new hires getting more and some less - of the fundamental stuff like health insurance. Turnover is more than most places and pay is less than industry standard.

    Advice to Management

This company and those that run it are just a bit too pleased with themselves and it shows. A little humility would be nice though they don't seem to be for lack of clients.
