I have been working at Macmillan Education full-time

    Pros

Good office locations, friendly colleagues, new leadership is trying to establish structure, stability and incentivise, excellent historical reputation in markets

    Cons

People leave regularly, which results in a drain of knowledge and experience,. Regular or unfinished restructuring is unsettling. New recruits in important roles not knowing enough (or not learning quickly) about publishing. Publishers over-controlling on content details. Not much room to grow. Budget-controls affects morale and efficiency of working. Always working with the same suppliers even when they let you... down.

I worked at Macmillan Education full-time

    Pros

I was reporting to the UK/London office. Fantastic colleagues in the sales team (driven, supportive, professional, fun), very good support from other departments (editorial, distribution, marketing)

    Cons

As a field sales rep you can feel a bit disconnected from the rest of the company, and this is especially true for non-UK staff.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget to listen to the needs and opinions of your non-UK employees.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in London, England

I have been working at Macmillan Education full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

A friendly and highly skilled workforce means that you are constantly learning in a fairly relaxed environment

    Cons

Changes of direction (particularly after merging with Springer) have resulted in a lot of uncertainty regarding projects and future job roles. Can be very frustrating.

    Advice to Management

More communication, more clarity, and more appreciation for the hard work that is often never rewarded due to projects being postponed/cancelled due to digital needs. Invest properly in digital, and this will solve immediate problems.
