I have been working at Macomb Community College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, easy-going approach, good supervisors and managers, may be able to cooperate with students who want private tutoring sessions.

    Cons

Low pay compare to the minimum requirements, most tutor must already have a associate or bachelor to be effective. End of semester drama.

    Advice to Management

Have some believe in your workers, just because they work for the minimum wage doesn't mean they have no life goals or passion for their work.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Macomb Community College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many of the teaching faculty are helpful and good to work with. Some are supportive of new instructors. Free parking on site.

    Cons

Administration is very unprofessional and seems to lack common sense. They appear threatened by new ideas and young employees. Decisions, enforcement of rules and policies are arbitrary and capricious. Employees are are not respected or valued as professionals. If you are happy being stagnant, unchallenged and micro managed - this is the place for you. If you are ambitious, a critical thinker and passionate about teaching-this place is not for you. Huge rumor mill and lots of passive agressive supervisors. Pay scale is below average.

    Advice to Management

"Drain the swamp " of the tired, bored management whose only objective is to collect a paycheck. Hire professionals with actual degrees in management positions. This place is the absolute perfect example of"its not what you know but who you know." Hire management personnel who really want to help students succeed and employees thrive. And remember that having manners and being polite is never out of vogue.

I have been working at Macomb Community College part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get to work with lots of different people/students every day. The college is great with scheduling and working around your home life or other job. Provides good experience for resume.

    Cons

This job doesn't lead anywhere. There aren't any incentives to stick around.
