I have been working at Macomb County (Michigan) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Highly Motivated Team of Professionals wanting to do the best for the community in which they work for.

    Cons

Long and never ending hours. Doubles shifts are a regular occurrence with staffing levels so low due to cut backs causing employees to be stressed and not work at optimal levels. The never ending stream of trainees put a strain on current employees due to lackluster hiring practices.

    Advice to Management

Work with the current employees to make the work environment more accommodating. At the current level anyone that does not have a title above the basic entry position have no voice and the prior union did nothing to give them one either. Things need to change from the top down to allow people from the bottom up to feel that their job is worth something more than a pay check.

I worked at Macomb County (Michigan) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I used to love my job and was proud to say I worked for Macomb County. Now it's all politics 24/7. There was no need for an executive. The amount of money spent on the executive's suites, administrative girls and a ton of political people hired is ridiculous. He didn't save the tax payers money.he actually spends more than previously spent. By the way, why elect a sheriff if the executive is still doing that job? Why did he run as a Democrat when he's admitted he is a Republican? What a waste of tax dollars! Glad I got out when I did.

    Cons

It's all downhill from here. There are no positives. The stress level is insane, HR is a political toy and a joke and people are leaving due to stress.
Run in the opposite direction! It only took me 7 years to figure that out. Life is now good.

    Advice to Management

Management are all politicians. The directors are appointed by executive. Some of these people have no business being a director when they went to non-accreditated online schools and have no prior experience with the departments they're running.
    Politics at its worst.

I worked at Macomb County (Michigan) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with a wide array of clientele was great for expanding my work experiences. Being able to teach within the jail was also a fantastic quality to be able to add to my resume.

    Cons

Upper management is very disorganized, very political and make decisions based on personal ties to employees rather than based off of education or experience.

    Advice to Management

learn to listen to your employees and take their ideas to heart.
