I worked at Macquarie Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Only positive is that the company is well known so it looks "Great" on your resume

    Cons

Everything about this place is horrible. From management to culture. Felt like I worked at a call center. No work life balance. Slavery

    Advice to Management

Take management courses. For those interviewing managers ensure the manager actually know his or her work. My manager knew nothing about the business and had everyone answer emails for her.

    Pros

Fruit delivered each day. Cheap vending machines. Nice people for the most part. Very nice hours. Good salary. Very good profit share. Some teams work well together.

    Cons

Leadership is one of the worst I have seen in my whole career. And I have been in a lot of organizations. Dysfunctional environment. Employees beaten down and demoralized. Everyone wants to leave. Only a matter of time. No one has been promoted to AD in years. What is the point of working hard? Director is a bully.

    Advice to Management

My advice to upper management? To HR? Do the needful. Interview some of the employees. Do it confidentially. You'll be surprised at what you learn.

    Pros

Smart people, unfortunately not that smart and those employees who play politics do nothing but sit in useless meetings all day. Free beverages and bananas.

    Cons

Central Compliance in New York is a real train wreck and has been run into the ground for the better part of 2 years. The core functions of Central are not respected, not even by the manager of the department which basically explains the decay. Unqualified and unfit to serve as leaders.

    Advice to Management

Despite numerous émployees going lodging complaints against certain managers you continue to bury your heads in the sand despite repercussions this will eventually bring. Therefore, I can't help you.

I have been working at Macquarie Group (More than a year)

    Pros

If you are in the right group, can be a positive experience. Well stocked kitchen.
I strongly suggest speaking to someone already working there to find out if the position you are considering is with one of the better groups.

    Cons

Their professed culture and values don't apply outside of Sydney, unethical behavior among management, Lack of diversity in leadership by US standards, can be difficult to move between groups, Pay is on the lower end compared to other firms.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Lack diversity, motivation, poor top management

    Cons

Barriers to be successful, lacks diversity, blacks holds no high position apart from the current ceo...Hispanics and blacks are considered minority. ..whites climb the ladder even without knowledge and credentials. .. friends and families are hand picked.

    Advice to Management

Staff especially minorities have no support, low pay, no attention is given to senior management who are taking long vacations but lower end staff is given a hard time if they have emergencies.

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Snacks, sodas, off-shore folks. Good salary to make up for the crappy work environment - it's all about kissing butt and parrotting the company line - but no real belief in it.

    Cons

Everything you could think off. People go through the motions, but no one cares. Something is broken, but it is not fixed as long as people follow the company line. Mostly incompetent folks in upper management and the real workers get beat down. No opportunities for foreigners to make it past AD, save a few exceptions. Lip-service to diversity, advancement. Local leads completely beholden to Australian decisions; no local autonomy.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the cheerleading and listen to account folks, and people that can actually do their jobs. Upper management will tell you what you want to hear - the folks that know will just leave as soon as they can. You will be left with low performers and folks that cannot readily get a job. Flavour of the month is not the best. Mandatory meetings do not mean people buy in into the culture. Anonymise polls, and get rid of low performers.

    Pros

growing company, might be more pros in sydney. If you suck up to management might get a chance to travel or work from other locations

    Cons

Very hierarchical colonial mindset culture, typical of the Sydney area. Not a good fit for someone who liked the US work culture. Not at all a people oriented company, they treat their staff like servants that are not expected to give any feedback or have any needs. Very incapable directors in most areas and training is not encouraged. Worst experience of my professional career. No flexibility, constant late night sydney calls as the staff there do not adjust to timings in the region.
