I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Depending on the executive you support, working at Macquarie can be a great place to work.

    Cons

Disjointed management. The EA's have a separate manager and are treated differently from all other employees. Very few paths to grow in company while supporting current team.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

More relaxed and laid back working environment, not crazy hours, good perks for free breakfast, beverages, coffee, etc

Don't really have the smartest people to work with - if you are a junior person who wants to learn new stuff, probably not the best place to start

    Cons

Very Australian - I worked in their New York office, and it is filled with native Australians. It seems like all Australians want to come to work in their New York office and not go back, and Americans just can't really get promoted within the firm.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time

    Pros

Worked with a lot of smart people, learned a lot. Great flexibility and good culture.

    Cons

Not great for career development in my field. Lots of cost cutting/layoffs.

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good flexibility, good vacation, fun culture

    Cons

Poor management, support staff have difficulties getting promoted and the ones that are awful never get let go

    Advice to Management

Instead of throwing money at problems face the tough situations and properly manage people out when needed and promote when deserved

  6. "Contract role"

I worked at Macquarie Group as a contractor

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities to get involved in great projects and gain a lot of experience, good day to day perks, numerous talented people to learn from.

    Cons

No work life balance, expected that you regularly put in more than the standard hours. If you don't fit the mold it'd made evident to you from the beginning. Workload is more than any one person can handle.

    Advice to Management

Managers need to know when employees, even contractors, are overloaded. Restructure teams if numerous people in one area aren't happy with the workload. It's a great learning experience, but when management is new to leading a team they should be provided more guidance.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Better work life balance than most investment banks and opportunity to work closely with the buy-side funds groups.

    Cons

Pay has historically been below the Street, and work life balance still is not good relative to other career opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Focus on rewarding and retaining talent more.

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The ability to work with a lot of intelligent people is definitely a plus. There are many options to create your career progression.

    Cons

It's an investment bank. A lot of layers to make a decision. Very inefficient processes in place. Extreme measures of cost cutting and significant controls on travel. Unless you are in a revenue producing role, you're pretty much a cog embedded in several cost centers.

I worked at Macquarie Group as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Company provided fruits, juices, soda, coffee, water. Could almost survive off the foods and beverages the firm had available. Now that I'm a former "employee" I miss it.

    Cons

Small company, little room for growth. Still contained the usual bureaucracy, especially due to it being a non-U.S. firm.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you've been doing, but maybe acknowledge the "little" people that keep the company afloat.

    Cons

Bad work hours, not great food service and lack of facilities/benefits given to employees
