I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Very healthy and diversified business model
    - Top pay scale for region
    - Good benefits and vacation
    - Great corporate culture with nice perks, like stocked kitchens, social events, on-site happy hours, etc.
    - Open dialogue across groups, regions, and career levels via Yammer
    - Allowed to freely voice opinions without fear
    - Can easily move between teams, groups, and regions
    - They hire smart people
    - Moving to an agile, results-driven culture

    Cons

    - Trading floor environment with no offices can be distracting
    - Can be too risk adverse and afraid to fail
    - Slow pace of change can be painful
    - Countless processes can be made more efficient
    - Analysis paralysis is prevalent
    - Asia-region team members tend to not take ownership if the possibility of failure exists
    - Personal investment compliance requirements make it nearly impossible for employees to invest quickly or wisely
    - 401k matching is below average for region, especially with the personal investment restrictions

    Advice to Management

Trust the senior level employees you hire to do their job without constant oversight and over-analyzation. Being so risk adverse that change only occurs slowly, incurs its own set of risks that should also be considered.

I believe that the company will continue to lose savvy employees who do not want to follow the archaic pre-approval processes for personal stock investments. More importantly, making the requirements known at the outset of the interview process should be required. Finding out about the requirements during first-day orientation certainly isn't the best foot forward.

You can remain in regulatory compliance, without crippling your own employees from investing wisely. Countless other investment banks do so without issue. At the very least, 401k matching, bonuses, and annual pay increases should be higher to help compensate for the potential lost revenue.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I really enjoyed working at Macquarie - the culture and camaraderie is extremely positive and the company has sort of a boutique feel to it but is tremendously successful globally.

    Cons

It seems that the name recognition in to the United States is still sort of struggling but people in the industry who know the top deal makers have high respect for Macquarie.

    Advice to Management

I would say that management should begin relying more on regional leadership instead of having a heavy centralized core out of Sydney.
