I worked at Macquarie Group (More than a year)

    Pros

Very commodities orientated Company with good understanding of the producers, end users and trading companies and their needs. Willing to provide margin financing after extensive credit review.

    Cons

A good place for young people to start their career.

    Advice to Management

Don't take for granted employees with multi-decade experience.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time

    Pros

Differentiated product offering which tends to generate interest/good-will from clients. Firm used to have unique Aussie culture, however this culture got lost as the firm became more American.

    Cons

Utterly mismanaged. Lots of trial and error which results in plenty of frustration by both employees and clients. Difficult to understand medium/long-term strategy and not evident that there is one. Leadership of the different businesses changes frequently making career development a challenge.

    Advice to Management

Communicate overall strategy more clearly and emphasize unique offering and culture instead of trying to mimic the competition.

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time

    Pros

    Great culture (easy going mostly)
    Good benefits
Relatively flat structure compared to some of the other banks within the industry

    Cons

Low brand recognition outside of infrastructure
Most decisions are made in a Sydney centric manner
Path to promotion not always clear

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Diverse product offering across global markets with creative individuals creating bespoke solutions for clients

    Cons

Upper management tends to have a shifting focus in the short term based on annual results without assessing long term trends and investing long term in businesses

    Pros

Fruit delivered each day. Cheap vending machines. Nice people for the most part. Very nice hours. Good salary. Very good profit share. Some teams work well together.

    Cons

Leadership is one of the worst I have seen in my whole career. And I have been in a lot of organizations. Dysfunctional environment. Employees beaten down and demoralized. Everyone wants to leave. Only a matter of time. No one has been promoted to AD in years. What is the point of working hard? Director is a bully.

    Advice to Management

My advice to upper management? To HR? Do the needful. Interview some of the employees. Do it confidentially. You'll be surprised at what you learn.

I worked at Macquarie Group full-time

    Pros

Great people. Great research. Trying to emphasize teamwork. A global presence and good name overall help get in the door to larger clients.

    Cons

Infrastructure is a decade late for trading and execution systems and trying to catch up, not thinking ahead. Not able to facilitate large US institutional needs for execution.

    Advice to Management

Give your sales teams the tools to succeed. Cross selling should be promoted and incentives for doing so.

    Pros

Smart people, unfortunately not that smart and those employees who play politics do nothing but sit in useless meetings all day. Free beverages and bananas.

    Cons

Central Compliance in New York is a real train wreck and has been run into the ground for the better part of 2 years. The core functions of Central are not respected, not even by the manager of the department which basically explains the decay. Unqualified and unfit to serve as leaders.

    Advice to Management

Despite numerous émployees going lodging complaints against certain managers you continue to bury your heads in the sand despite repercussions this will eventually bring. Therefore, I can't help you.
