I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Love the people and culture. They definitely live what they preach about opportunity and integrity and accountability. People are smart and driven. Management is responsible and mostly intelligent and solid decision makers. Employees in general are motivated, humble and friendly

    Cons

Communication between teams, departments and divisions is pretty broken. Big push to correct this but it was previously a case of "the left hand know not what the right doeth"
I do wanna say salary somewhat... Although I am new to the corporate world and nobody feels they get laid what they are worth.
Doubly sucks cos raises only occur once a year.
Development of people is very much in the back burner unless your manager is the type to push it

    Advice to Management

Teach people well and they'll do a good job.
VALUE people more and they'll stay

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company has a strong culture and encourages development. Many smart people work there who are motivated. Opportunities to network in different areas if you are proactive.

    Cons

Work volumes can be extremely high and staff are not always replaced. Office politics are at play. The hours can be long.

    Advice to Management

Management need to be more proactive in developing staff. Performance appraisals need to be consistent and management should take more accountability .

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great experience, looks good on a resume.

    Cons

Very tough hours. Minimal training. Most people left before completing a year. Despite the package looking good, the salary is very low.

    Advice to Management

Its cheaper to retain good staff than to continuously hire new staff.

    Pros

Challenging, autonomous, change, innovative. Focused on delivery, good culture and opportunities to network, promotes collaboration. You get out what you put in.

    Cons

Long hours expected when required (but not expected when not required). You need to be motivated to work individually, need to be able to adapt easily to change.

I have been working at Macquarie Group (More than a year)

    Pros

Ok bonus, good working environment and consistently updating technology

    Cons

Bad management, promotions based on people who are freindly with management or work directly with them, teams that work across the other businesses are not appreciated

    Advice to Management

Might need to look at other parts of the business where teams are not appreciated not rewarded for what they do, also team members who have built relationships within the business and grown and have a few years experience should be acknowledged rather than being a second thought, you will end up loosing valuable members who can make the business succeed

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Can work from home.
Work/life balance not too bad in BFS (Banking and Financial Services).

    Cons

    Outdated technology.
Unforgiving environments and some nasty managers
Very limited career prospects for technologists.
    Using waterfall/agile hybrid.
Below inflation wage increases every year.

    Advice to Management

You say you want BFS (Banking and Financial Services) to be the best online bank? Look at all the middle-managers and ask yourself, 'Could I imagine him/her working at Google or Tyro or Paypal?'. If the answer is no, then get rid of them. (Hint: a lot of the middle management in BFS falls into that category)
