    Pros

Routine oriented, People and Customers are fun to work with. Pushing Sales is not easy but if you are in a big store with foot traffic it's simple.

    Cons

Getting hours during the slow time of the year

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Follow the policies you instill in your team.

    I have been working at Macy's full-time

    Pros

I've had the pleasure of working with some very nice colleagues it's unfortunate that most of them no longer work for the company as turnover escalates amongst store's management team.

    Cons

The toxic, high pressure environment is a constant challenge along with the continual change of store manager and assistant store managers that seem to rotate in and out every year. The corporation does not value it's Human Assets and looks to the lowest man on the totem pole to blame and point fingers at for the corporate failings.

    Advice to Management

Terry lundgren needs to look at himself ( he doesn't believe in a national minimum wage increase) and examine what the "Real corporate culture" is at Macy's and not what his people tell him it is. The corporate executives need to seriously check their egos and listen to their employees and not just those feeding them what they "Want to hear". What your doing now is not working as evidenced by store closures and annual layoffs to attempt to control costs. Shame on you for making Macy's West a once wonderful place to work just a former shell of it's self. Macy's you prove time and again that everyone is just a number that can be replaced. Why would anyone have any loyalty to you when you don't reciprocate?

    Pros

You have the opportunity to create a great team by leading your sales people in a way that foster's development and teamwork.

    Cons

Daily/weekly scorecard review process is tedious and childish and takes way too much time away from any impactful coaching of selling behaviors. If the support of store management was consistent in ALL departments regardless of their function, whole-store response would be improved.

    Advice to Management

Learn what ALL managers do on a daily basis and stop avoiding those whose functions are beyond your training. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and get down in the trenches when the going gets tough.

    Pros

Really enjoy most of my peers, decent merchandise discount, lots of feedback on job performance, recognition when results are good.

    Cons

Continual down-sizing loads more responsibility without additional compensation, buy into the corporate line and if you don't, keep it to yourself.

    Advice to Management

With low unemployment, you need to pay more. Customers keep telling you there aren't enough sales people...listen to them. focus on EDPs is ridiculous. Promote those who deserve it regardless of where they started.

    Pros

I was a sales manager of four departments. Loved the job . Loved helping customers.

    Cons

Sales associates were on a draw vs commission. Very hard for them to make more than minimal wage.

    Advice to Management

Automate sales signs. Pay a better hourly rate and eliminate commissions.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The hard working associates. Coworkers with a good work ethic.

    Cons

Politically proper, empathy challenged, position conscious managers

    Advice to Management

Make the effort to see your employees as Team members and respectable human beings, not simply a means to an end.
