I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, easy to make sale goals, fun place to work

    Cons

Low staff issues, makes it harder to please and serve customers

    Advice to Management

Please fix low staff issues... It's difficult to satisfy customers when only one associate is scheduled to an entire area...

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was close to my house and the local management was very friendly. The employee discount with coupons and Macy's money was great, you could use it at store with more selection. It was easy to get your schedule and you were able to set it up for the holiday season weeks in advance so you could make plans.

    Cons

People would steal the better brand shoes so they stopped having them. The styles are not nearly as up to date as New York or Chicago. The store closed this past spring.

    Advice to Management

The stores that are still open in the area need to get some of the more stylish clothes that are offered in the bigger markets, Dillard's has more selection than Macy's.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful coworkers who are always there to help you. I've met some of the best people at Macy's. You have a fair bit of autonomy and I've spent hours in an almost empty store being paid to chat with coworkers.

    Cons

Managers are rarely going to say anything but the company line. They care about whatever their boss has been on them about. Customers can be completely horrible. It's not hard to move up in the company until a certain point when people seem to hit a wall. Leaving Macy's isn't seen as a possibility. I could keep going for a while.

    Advice to Management

I moved from a specialist sales position to a support lead and it's amazing how invisible I suddenly became. Support needs to be a full part of the stores.
You also have to stop making moves that are obviously all about making money.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Schedule was pretty flexible for a college student. I loved my team, and was told I could have taken over a few of the departments' stock areas if I kept up the good work.

    Cons

Not very many hours in merchandising, and it's hard to be rehired, even after turning in a notice.

    Advice to Management

If a former employee would like to return to working with you, give them a chance.
