    I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is so well recognized around the country as one of the premier places to shop for the holidays.

    Cons

Management does not keep up with the quality of service towards customers which is making it more difficult for associates and store managers to keep relationships.

    Advice to Management

Focus on ups and downs of individual stores quality of service, the appearance, more rewards for lower level jobs.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, great suport and training, many opportunities to earn extra dollars. Great discounts.

    Cons

Too many promos sales and discounts that over lap or are subject to qualifying items/ departments. Confusing to the customer.

    Advice to Management

Commission sales staff pay back hours worked from commission earnings however; when non commission hourly sales staff is limited unavailable then commission sales staff spends many hours of their commission sales time ringing returns and sales that they dont get commission for due to the fact the items and customers are from other departments that are under staffed but, those hours still come out of commission check. Macys says its part of "Making Macys Magic" and yes it is but I feel solution could be to at least give commission sales staff some percentage of items they ring that are from outside departments.

    Pros

Free samples from the counter and friendly co-workers. I worked during the holiday season so everyone was pretty cherry and delightful. Macy's also provided adequate training which I appreciated.

    Cons

Long hours at times and competitive sales goals when working at a counter. The holiday season is fun to work but it also get pretty hectic, be prepared to work long hours.

    Advice to Management

I just wish that those who work in the beauty department could be a little more professional.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Gave me knowledge about bedding, learned how to use a cash register pretty well.

    Cons

    Horrible scheduling system, incompetent management.

    Advice to Management

I don't even feel like bothering because no one listened to me when I was there or even after I left, but this was probably the worst decision for a job I could have ever made. I thought because of how Macy's portrayed themselves it would be an okay job with some decent people, I was completely wrong. All of the staff was miserable, the people who did nothing or simply disobeyed the rules got rewarded the most. If you're a hard worker, obey the rules, actually put forth an effort for your position, and make sure a customer is happy after the emotional and mental abuse for coupons, don't expect to get rewarded or even told you're doing a good job by your higher up. You barely see your managers unless you're ready to play hide and seek or phone tag for about 24 - 48 hours. Don't expect to get days off in advanced, it's not happening. The credit system is a complete joke. The hours are god awful, and forget it if you're in college. You can give every manager in the store a copy of your schedule, but they still give you hours that conflict with your school schedule. When you work here, you don't have a life. You live and breathe Macy's. Keep letting the magic happen, the magic that's horrible.
