I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I'm gaining more leadership and merchandising experience.
Challenging position than keeps you on your toes.

    Cons

Not being compensated with a wage equivalent to duty expectations.

    Advice to Management

If you value an employee and they perform their job. You should make sure they are fairly compensated. When good employees feel devalued they will leave even if they love their job.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good pay if you are in a commission department ONLY and that includes men's suits and shoes, and women shoes.
-Flexible schedule: you can pick up, swap, and advertise shifts.
-All employees (Including part timers) get holiday pay, and paid time off after 90 days of employment only!

    Cons

    - They only train you to use the cash register and put you on the floor without any kind of training about the merchandise, that's why most associate are clueless (especially in positions where new people are getting hired all the time)
-As a commission sales associate without a base pay, it was unfair and simply wrong to assign me task that would keep me away from the sales floor while other hourly paid employees are on the sales floor.

    Advice to Management

A lot of store managers aren't qualified to hold these positions, please consider choosing people more carefully for these critical positions. After 2 years of work, I just see them driving good employees outside the store with their decisions

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Macy's associates care about each other. I have made some good friends.

    Cons

Managers have there heads up there you know what. Where do they find these questionable managers. They have to work at being rude. Must have special training classes.

    Advice to Management

None. No one listens, I dare to say that Macys is heading the way of J.C. Penny's.
Seriously, pay your associates better. Target pays more as a starter.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly work environment
    Supportive coworkers
    Energetic management
    Great employee discount
    Good benefits package
Flexible schedule (most of the time); easy to adjust if you know in advance

    Cons

    Low wages
    Long hours
High expectations not in line with reality or reflective of pay
Little opportunity to move upwards or laterally
Departments change with little notice and completely change your work environment, but there is no permitted "adjustment period"

    Advice to Management

If you pay your employees Walmart wages, and pose yourself as Nordstroms, there's going to be a disconnect reflected in your employees, their satisfaction, and their performance. Be aware that a "sense of style" is not a universal, linear thing, and that it's okay for one associate to tag off to another if a client interaction has stalled. Be aware of unethical sales practices on the floor and treat them as unethical, instead of as "frowned upon" but ultimately beneficial to the company, your individual scorecard, etc. If your career is determined by how you manage those below you, then manage consciously, gracefully, and thoughtfully.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good discount
    401k
    Paid vacation
    Easy dress code

    Cons

    No respect towards employees
No appreciation for good work ethic
    Horrible management
No one who works at Macy's is happy to be employed by Macy's and it shows.
Employees must have their credit card to receive store discount
Terrible hours.....no balance between work and home life
Terrible pay for what is expected
PRESSURE TO OPEN CREDIT CARDS IS THE WORSE. Raises are based more on this than on sales.

    Advice to Management

Value your employee......if there ever should be a union formed to make a work place better, this would be the perfect place to form one!

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great employees
I can't stay still so constantly moving for the job is a pro
    Base + commission
Part time flex but I'm still able to pick up decent amounts of hours
    Clean, organized stock room

    Cons

Such a large company and managers are pulled for various tasks, I never received proper training or complete training.
The pay is kind of low.

    Advice to Management

Pay some more attention to newer employees as certain jobs on the floor can get overwhelming.
Increase pay wage as commission really isn't that much either.
