I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Managers are friendly. Growth in company opportunities. Easy to make friends.

    Cons

Favoritism. Somewhat flexible with school. Customer commodation even on people that play the system and they know its wrong.

    Advice to Management

Stop assuming things. Communicate. Stop pressuring one good hard worker.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I loved my team. My manager was fantastic, and I learned a lot from him as well as the other people I worked with throughout my employment there. I was surrounded by a lot of talented and highly competent individuals. It was a good experience, and great exposure to the logistics aspect of the retail industry. Employee discount was nice.

    Cons

Lack of advancement potential and growth opportunity in most departments within the company unless willing to relocate, but having experience here is likely to open doors elsewhere. Most available training offered only to those at management level and above. Otherwise, development opportunity is limited. Office politics. "Water cooler" talk. Senior Mgmt sometimes unreasonably demanding. Unrealistic deadlines often compromise work/life balance. Use it or lose it PTO policy.

    Advice to Management

Results are important, but put a little more focus on employee recognition, and work/life balance. I realize the importance of continuing to move forward and onto the next thing. It still wouldn't hurt to take a moment to praise employees for their hard work and accomplishments. Especially those who are below management level. Invest in their development, too. It just might create loyalty, and reduce turnover.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Cons

Being there felt like high school all over again especially with the managers. It's just sad.

    Pros

The team that I worked with was great; both my management and teammates. I loved working with customers; giving them advice and helping run all the transactions smoothly.

    Cons

Pay was really low; I was payed less than people who started working later then me (due to some changes in hiring policies).

    Advice to Management

The management does a great job. Some of the things to consider are: more schedule flexibility (many employees are students) and allowing employees make their own decisions in the workplace.
