I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Discounts! The regular discount is 20% plus you can use coupons and Macys money on your purchases. Your discount came be applied in all Macy's holdings.

    Cons

Rude customers! No cohesion between management and associates. They say we are empowered but there is no empowerment. There is no real work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees as well as you treat your customers.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I really like the way the store communicates. It's super effective and I feel like we are always working together. That includes management, sales floor associates and AP, AND the District. Also AP has a lot of power and thats awesome.

    Cons

there is a lot of pressure to make apprehensions and sometimes there was a time management issue where I was left waiting up to a month for replies and just little stuff like that.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, I enjoy working for Macy's. I'd like to have made a little more money but hopefully that will come for me soon

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, good as temporary work place

    Cons

To much responsibility for that little money. As a student in Germany 15 years ago I made double that much money for the same work.

    Advice to Management

Don't aspect great work performance for this "peanuts". The people need cash and not your pins, pens, Macy's money or "you are the best".

I have been working at Macy's (Less than a year)

    Pros

The team ethic between sales managers at my store was really good. I liked the program overall, the training was decent and they did a good job transitioning new managers from shadowing an experienced manager to being on their own. However as a college graduate who just spent four years getting an education I resented the amount of manual labor I had to do. As a manager in the Accessories/Juniors departments it was non-stop cleaning of clothing racks, picking up clothes out of the fitting rooms and hauling them around the three-story store. After working insane hours at Christmas I got fed up and found a new job. I think other smaller stores may have less of this problem, but the store I was in was big, had a lot of foot traffic, and was severely understaffed in the areas that needed help the most (any area with women's clothing or accessories).

    Cons

Store manager made department managers come in an hour early to straighten the store, after I left I heard they made managers come in on Saturdays to straighten, regardless of whether they were scheduled to work or not..

    Pros

Flexible, great coworkers, organized company, nice environment, great merchandise, easy scheduling system

    Cons

Low pay, don't always get breaks you're supposed to get, conflicting manager policies, angry customers

    Pros

None none none none none none none none and NONE. Oh! I forgot, they give you days off of work.

    Cons

Management sucks! Pay sucks! Hours suck! Job sucks! Their point system sucks! They harass you about not making sales and greeting customers, even when your only customers are Casper the Friendly Ghost and The Invisible Man.

    Advice to Management

Keep your word and ,at least, ACT like you care about your employees. You're more concerned about your conniving customers, than you are about the happiness and well-being of your employees!!

    Pros

Treat people fair. great working conditions. Treated as an equal.

    Cons

shoplifting problems due to a lack of customer service which is due to NOT enough employees to operate store.

    Advice to Management

Less is more is no longer possible
to successfully combat shoplifting, hirer enough employees for size of store.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment. The store I worked at was amazing. The culture of the company is welcoming. The hours are not terrible. Getting hours is not bad. Depending on your availability, you pick them up. The credit rewards are awesome!

    Cons

I was option 5 so I hardly cleared any money. I left because I needed more money. I probably would have stayed if the money was better.

    Advice to Management

Great management in store but overall, the company should pay at least $9.50 for the amount of work you do.
