    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, good team ethic, and flexible hours. I had a great manager that allowed me to change my hours if I didn’t like what I was working, or needed to take my child to dr etc.

    Cons

Pay was low, but commissions made up for it. The more you sell, the more your check was. If you didn’t meet the monthly quota, you were put on a “list” and would be told to improve.

    Advice to Management

Management at the store I worked for was great, they always looked out for each person. It was a great experience.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Macy's offers a good discount and the opportunity to earn extra "Macy's Money" to spend on products.

    Cons

Retail hours, especially long at Macy's which stays open later and often opens earlier than the rest of the mall.

    Advice to Management

More can be done to make employees feel valuable and encourage greater teamwork and a sense of ownership.

I worked at Macy's (Less than a year)

    Pros

there are no pros to working at Macys

    Cons

This company is a company that exploits it's retail associates on every level. Lets start with the pay. The pay is horrible and no one could live on what they deem 'good' pay. Besides the pay, this company is a controlling dictatorship type regime. The rules are extensive, detailed and suffocating. They literally live to suck the very life out of their employees and crush their souls one day at time. You can only enter and exit through certain doors, you can't talk with your fellow associates, you must do the tasks they tell you to do but if you are in the middle of one and a customer walks up you are supposed to drop what you are doing even if that includes cash handling and opening a register. Co workers, though some are nice some can be bullies and downright nasty. They try to motivate associates with "Macys money" in the lowest amounts (I'm talking $5 folks) which is nothing but insulting to us while the store rakes in millions of dollars off our backs. Offer a real bonus or some time off and then see employees get motivated. Stop the credit card madness. Nobody wants your stupid 25% APR credit card. And you guys are practically criminal for shoving it down every customers throat with not an ounce of shame. What an ugly, ugly company.

    Advice to Management

You guys do not know how to manage people or motivate them. Let your employees breathe a little. We are grown adults and can handle ourselves without the stifling rules and communist-esque atmosphere of the store. Pay us better and then you will see more loyalty and harder workers. Work on your stupid point system which is a load of crap and another weapon used against employees. Don't let people get bullied. PERIOD. This is 2018, bullying should be addressed and handled. Stop micromanaging people while they are trying to do their jobs! And get better computers/registers instead of the slow dinosaurs you currently have which slows down productivity and customer service.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good employee discount and sales.

    Cons

Demoralizing corporate culture, too much pressure to open credit accounts.

    Advice to Management

Customers return to a store because of value, quality of merchandise and customer service - not because they have a credit card with the store. Stop emphasizing this so much.
