I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Great coworkers
    -Supportive environment
-Usually left to preform work according to how you see best

    Cons

-Scheduling disaster! Currently my department is running off a piece of paper with changes made in pen instead of the online schedule. We sometimes don't know our schedule for one day until the day before.

-Zero flexibility. If you're a student or have children, don't expect them to be accommodating.

-Weekends are always completely open availability.

-Often workers are given the online schedule, then last minute given an altered paper schedule with increased hours some can't work because of previous commitments made based on the online schedule.

-Safety hazards in this location (malfunctioning elevator/escalator) are not being addressed.

    Advice to Management

Do not jerk your workers around with the scheduling. Give one schedule and stick with it.
Ask workers if they want extended hours instead of forcing the hours on them.
Fix the safety issues in the store.
    Encourage cross department unity.
Be understanding of employee commitments outside work and of their needs.

    Pros

Fun environment, flexible hours, sick pay

    Cons

Loss prevention are not up front of policies, they actually trick you for employee turn arounds. Its ridiculous!! They fire so many new hires and these people are young, very young(anywhere from 18-25). For some girls it's their very first job. What a way to start your life in the work field, what would that do to their self-esteem at that young age. This is ABUSE! Low pay but expect Nordstrom service.

    Advice to Management

Asset Protection firing innocent new hires who are not yet properly trained on policies/procedures. It makes their report look good and they get promoted. Total abuse!

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Learned a lot on the job, whether it be sales, communicating with people in general, or organization. Very independent atmosphere, if you wanted to make a lot of money, you just had to sell a lot.

    Cons

I felt like the training could have been better initially. When new programs or incentives started, as a part time worker I was always one of the last to find out how to do things.

    Advice to Management

Money comes from the sales team, so sometimes you just need to let them sell. Pushing Macy's cards sometimes felt like a waste of time.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For somebody who immigrated to the United States and wants to know about American culture, Macy's is the best pace to work. Dealing with different customers prepare you to become a patient and problem solver. Working as a team helps you to learn many things that help you for your future jobs.In addition, 20% employee discount is another benefit of Macy's

    Cons

As a employee you have to work instead of 3-4 people with minimum wage. Sometimes you are alone at the register and you have to ring, go back, help the customer and clean the fitting room.
