I have been working at Macy's (More than a year)

    Pros

-Ability to advertise and offer covers for shifts online.
-General sense of camaraderie among hourly staff.

    Cons

-Staffing at this location is horrible, leaving other associates to take on more for lack of people. People are not being hired, and there are constant callouts.
-I was referred to by a sexist term by a coworker and there have been no consequences for that employee.
-Often pulled to work out of department in areas where there is no coverage. I have many times been stuck covering at a register when I'm a fitting room associate.
-I've several times been scheduled outside of my given availability.

    Advice to Management

Do not change schedules last minute.
    Respect employees given availability.
    Hire more people!
Listen to and address employee concerns more effectively.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to swap or advertise your shifts. Good discounts.

    Cons

Scheduling is a nightmare. Done by a computer who won’t care if you’re by yourself on Black Friday for 10 hours. No coverage when you’re alone, HR never calls people in if they want to pick up shifts. You’re required to work when they need you, you have no choice. Can’t even get someone to cover you who isn’t working if it’s a key day. Management is a joke. They let go so many employees so the stores are skeletons. Macy’s won’t last long.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees as people not cattle. You should be giving good employees raises.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Can move around, there is always opportunities for those who work hard

    Cons

To grow a career you need to be willing to move around (dept, store) and even relocate. Retail hours

    Advice to Management

A lot of pressure to hit target goals, self lead, your success is viewed through your associates success

    Pros

Fun environment, flexible hours, sick pay

    Cons

Loss prevention are not up front of policies, they actually trick you for employee turn arounds. Its ridiculous!! They fire so many new hires and these people are young, very young(anywhere from 18-25). For some girls it's their very first job. What a way to start your life in the work field, what would that do to their self-esteem at that young age. This is ABUSE! Low pay but expect Nordstrom service.

    Advice to Management

Asset Protection firing innocent new hires who are not yet properly trained on policies/procedures. It makes their report look good and they get promoted. Total abuse!

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Learned a lot on the job, whether it be sales, communicating with people in general, or organization. Very independent atmosphere, if you wanted to make a lot of money, you just had to sell a lot.

    Cons

I felt like the training could have been better initially. When new programs or incentives started, as a part time worker I was always one of the last to find out how to do things.

    Advice to Management

Money comes from the sales team, so sometimes you just need to let them sell. Pushing Macy's cards sometimes felt like a waste of time.

I have been working at Macy's (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not very hard if you are ready to help people and are both thorough and speedy with registers. You get some good customer service experience and you get an employee discount for yourself, a spouse, and your kids.

    Cons

It's gets tiring, and you don't get very many shifts.
