I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Creative freedom with projects, less rules (can use phone on sales floor), little Interaction w/ customers on sales floor and always something new +/or exciting to do.

    Cons

Job can be very physical at times, high risk of injury if not careful. Scratched myself today while lighting Christmas tree and jabbed my thumb with a razor once trying to take dried glue off of a surface.

Not enough pay. You do too much for less pay.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good discount, good work/life balance. Computerized scheduling allowed for flexibility. If you work hard there is lots of opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

Crazy retail hours. Macy's changes the hours that they are open based on Sales and time of year. Sometimes they will have you start earlier then your regular shift to watch a video so monitor your schedule carefully.

    Advice to Management

    More pay = Better workers

    Pros

Commission Sales Boosts Salary considering your paid minimum wage. Scheduling system allows you to see what your in for.

    Cons

Management doesn't get involved even though there is much to be done. Training is nearly worthless you learn everything after you complete what they call training.

    Advice to Management

Get more involved with the departments.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Ability to work independently, or in a small group of co-workers depending on how you work best. a grace period in which you were taught how to do everything was extremely helpful, and left no question unanswered.

    Cons

I was told I would be able to pick which hours i would work each week due to the fact I was a college student, and course work varied from week to week, but about two weeks in I was informed i missed a shift even though it was not a shift i normally worked, and I did not add it. Adding shifts was also difficult due to the complicated system they used online and occasionally I signed up for the wrong department because of this. Also no directions were given where to go and there was no general meeting place you just walked in and had to figure out where to go on the fly which is hard when you first start working there.

    Advice to Management

this company would benefit by having a period in between the novice level introductory class and when the employee starts their first shift, helping them to see where each section is where to check in just the basics of actually being an employee there, not just telling them how to use the register and sending them off.
