I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The team I work with in my shop has amazing collaboration. We communicate well together to ensure that we are aligned.

    Cons

The workload can be overwhelming. It can be very stressful trying to manage all the non negotiable. It is important to be able to multi task.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Discount, vacation, flexibility, some peers.

    Cons

    Work life balance, favoritism, pay.

    Advice to Management

Decide who Macy's is and staff accordingly. If we are a discounter, put in kiosks and stop pretending we offer full service. People are burning out because you have cut so many executives, those that are left are doing the work of four people. Promote based on results and stop playing favorites.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn and grow your own skills. Do provide path to grow your career but is very specific. Consistently trying out new programs, ideas for cutting costs.

    Cons

    Did-alignment of vision
Do not respect continuing education, career growth is a very specific path, and if you continue your education, it does not change the fact that they still expect you to complete the specific path. Poor wages for workload, which is consistently increasing while availability for the appropriate resources to actually complete the job diminishes daily. Every stakeholder seems important, except for their employees. Livable wages are a laughable concept.
    Not agile

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people that run your stores and interact with your customers on a daily basis, and pay them what they are worth.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I can honestly say though that after working at 3 very different Macy's locations and working at a variety of other retailers... Macy's employs some of the best people I know. If you can find a Macy's with a solid team working there your job will be much more manageable. Box stores are better about divvying up job roles, lots of options for promotion/advancement as they love to promote from within, family atmosphere even though it is a large company, good pay

    Cons

Just like any retailer- customers take advantage of Macy's focus on outstanding customer service. We've allowed customers to return everything and get coupons on everything and are now having to lay a lot of people off. I get yelled at/disrespected every day because I tell a customer no and then upper management makes me do whatever the customer wants even though it is completely against "policy"

    Advice to Management

Stick to the policies. Why have them if you don't actually follow them? And appreciate those who work hard for you. Don't just expect those who work hard for you to do more. Also, don't forget where you came from. Almost every manager came from an associate role. Some upper level managers forget what it was like to be an associate. Remember how hard it is to smile 24/7 and always be tasking.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Discount, somewhat flexible schedule, diversity

    Cons

Terrible communication of company to employees and within overall management, poor training for employees, high turnover rate

    Advice to Management

Advice to the company that investment in employees would create a much more satisfying environment for both customers and employees, and far less turnover rate

    Cons

holidays are stressful and aren't fun anymore, lack of flexible schedule becomes a challenge at times

To upper management, not at the individual store level, don't set unrealistic goals
