I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My managers were understanding and fair. The job was easy. The dress code expanded while I was there, which was a plus. The pay was fair for my level of experience and the nature of the job. The schedule was flexible and they worked with my class schedule in college.

    Cons

The customers can be absolutely terrible. There will be an occasional entitled customer that tries to get you fired. The coupons are always an issue and most issues that customers caused a scene over regarded exclusions on coupons.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Union Square store was an excellent place to talk with a global array of customers. I worked with seasoned professionals, in a variety of roles, whom understood the dynamic retail industry and customer success.

    Cons

Location. San Francisco's downtown area has become a pit of public needle use and random violence. Also, with the focus on online retail, in store support from sales to management has decreased, creating customer service challenges.
Work-life balance is another pain point. Forget weekends and holidays, especially during Q4. This is part of the retail executive's job, but I have experienced better balance at other large department stores.

    Advice to Management

This is not a store level solution, and Central Committee from Ohio is not read this. But if it happened to make it to someone: better in store managerial support.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work is relatively simple and easy to grow accustomed to. Managers are helpful when guidance or extra assistance is required. Other employees were friendly and easy to work with.

    Cons

The company required employees to push the company's rewards card on customers, hinting that my job could be at stake if I didn't get people to sign up. This makes long term work for the company seem untenable, and would agitate customers who want their transactions to be quick.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Invested in me and helped grow my career. Pretty good pay and PTO.

    Cons

The company has not addressed some MAJOR infrastructure issues. Extremely poor leadership. Very few directors and above know what's going on and rely on all lower level employees to do everything. It's a shitshow. Oh and for being a tech company the technology is 10 years behind and the health care is a joke I almost think Obamacare is better.

    Advice to Management

Instead of focusing on completing with Amazon, take a step back and address larger issues.
