    Pros

The discounts and benefits were awesome

    Cons

Only women were promoted most of the time

    Advice to Management

Please be on the floor more often, talk to your associates and see what they need, most of the times most associates go over their 5th hr because their is no coverage

I have been working at Macy's (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay (if you work in a commission area),
    Associate discounts,
    Competitive environment

    Cons

The management (at the Sacramento/Arden stores) is atrocious. The shoes manager was one of only three or four good managers who actually followed policy. The rest ignore company policy constantly return damaged items and bend the rules just so they can keep their bonuses (that's the rumor at least).

Also, the store I worked at pushed "At Your Service," a "convenience" feature that let us look up customers with just their phone number. Sounds good, until you realize the management pushes us hard to do it and most customers don't want their card so easily accessible by anyone. Other associates have had to add people to this service WITHOUT their knowledge just so they can keep their hours. Now, hundreds of shoppers CCs are accessible by anyone who knows their phone number or by the associate.

    Advice to Management

Stop bending the rules. We get the same customers constantly returning damaged and used items and most of you keep bending your knee to them like they own you. It's insulting that you'll throw away money to the same customers just because "they have a Macy's card and are loyal customers," as one manager put it.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Spacious environment for hands-on work. Micro management is a thing, there will be co-workers who will offer input or direction if you lack. Maybe not in the best way at times, but not awful if you are assertive to your needs.

    Cons

It’s easy to get treated like just another employee here. Hard work is overlooked if there is seniority against it. Negative environment. It felt like high school and the management seemed clueless like they were just rehearsing lines over and over with no meaning.

    Advice to Management

Don’t convince yourself it’s amazing here when there is a lot of important values getting oversees from young employees. I think the split of customer service and basic organization of store can get lost in translation easily.
