I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The merchandising team at macys is pretty young for the most part. There are multiple roles within merchandising such as buying, financial planning, digital, merchandising planning and all roles work together so this is a good team to learn how to collaborate. Everything in merchandising revolves the customer and merchandise as well.

    Cons

very hard to move up in merchandising. this area probably sees the most turnover because of all of the moving parts. merchandising is very cyclical, especially as a financial planner when you plan season after season.

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Company discount is great at 20% with additional 10% one weekend a month.

    Cons

Everything. Work life balance is non-existent. HR was minimized, managers are abusing their power and creating toxic environments with no support for employees. Company policies are not well regulated or enforced equally throughout the company. Sometimes the disparity is team by team within the same family of business. Working from home isn't really allowed (up to your individual supervisor) and is more so just used... as a talking point for the execs. They say you own you can go anywhere in the company and want you to have a well rounded experience, but then never actually allow you to move on to a new role. The company culture and morale has plummeted in the last 6 months to a year. The company I once knew and loved is unrecognizable and horrible at retaining talent. People are fleeing like rats off a sinking ship.

I have been working at Macy's full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to move across job functions to find the right fit within the company.

    Cons

A lot of corporate politics that gets in the way of doing what's best for your business. I suppose you will get this at most large companies like Macy's, but this gets incredibly frustrating when you can see the opportunities of what could be if only you were allowed to execute.

  6. "Associate Planner"

I have been working at Macy's for less than a year

    Pros

Great benefits, work-life balance, competitive pay, amazing staff, convenient office location, good hours. Ability to move within the organization.

    Cons

Macys recently merged the dot-com and brick and mortar buying offices. The transition has been rocky to say the least. There has been a lot of recent turnover, and employees are feeling undervalued at all levels.

    Advice to Management

Management should reorganize the company so that there is a more definitive job structure. The employees want to feel vital to the buying process at all levels.
