I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Really nice work environment. Very friendly management. Amazing scheduling system. Crazy employee discounts! Win amazing prizes at competitions! Meet cool people! I also recently met with a whole buncha District people and they are really cool too.

    Cons

Minimum wage. Once in a very blue moon you will have customers that come in with the intent of being rude, and get price adjustments, and they just kill your buzz. Also sometimes we mess up and have to deal with our fair share of angry customers. Toilets are nasty on sale days.

    Advice to Management

Please do not appease angry customers because they often take advantage of the situation and they keep coming back enraged for no real reason.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

flexible schedule, option to pick up overtime around the holidays, extended scheduling (6 wks) during the holidays for better scheduling of family time.

    Cons

pay raises aren't the best, pressure for opening credits is not my favorite thing to do,

    Advice to Management

communicate better, post open positions within the store---possibly in the morning rally sheets or an updated spot on a bulletin board in the break room

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Can work in different departments other than your assigned department, very easy online scheduling system, plenty of other employees to pick up your shifts, part-time can work up to 30 hours a week

    Cons

difficult to get ahold of managers, sometimes would have to wait for a long time with a customer for a manager and customers would grow impatient, not much training for new hires (learn as you go)

    Advice to Management

be aware of where the newer employees are and try to be reachable to them because they will have the most questions and issues with the system

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Ability to shape schedule to your individual needs and availability. Great discount and incentive programs.

    Cons

Very boring and repetitive work. Can only change availability quarterly. Experience based on store management.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to spend more time in stores, especially if there seems to be a high turn around rate.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I really loved the fact that employees could go online to adjust their schedule. They can switch shifts and request time off without having to meet with a manager.

    Cons

It was difficult to feel like you were being heard. Management didn't seem very receptive or particularly pro-active about employee relations.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great pay (8.75/hour plus commision)

    Cons

They often did not care about my school schedule. They scheduled me during classes when i specifically gave them my availabilty

    Advice to Management

Put as much care into college students schedules as you do those who have second jobs or families.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for promotion, adequate compensation, wonderful selling philosophy (customers at the center of everything), great focus on development of talent.

    Cons

Insane expectations for hours worked in a week for salaried managers. Often work more than 40 hours per week, and often 6 days a week. No compensation offered for that.

    Advice to Management

At the store level, listen to your HR managers. Do not over schedule your salaried sales managers; we will burn out and be unproductive. We will give you everything, if you give us some balance.
