    Pros

Macys is very willing to hire and retain older people. Two co-workers are in their 80s. The management at all levels works very hard and consistently to improve business and also discovers the means to get employees involved. The pay is minimal but it is balanced by respect and flexible work schedules along with clothing discounts.

    Cons

The pay is minimal and at some times, there is little work.

    Advice to Management

The ability to print signs easily stopped when management was moved to Atlanta in 2009. The pricing equipment is barely functioning. The quality of the merchanise remains excellent, but the quantity and variety is decreasing and the customers are not happy. The fashion jewelry is delivered to stores that sell little of it and stores that do sell, get much less desirable stock. I love this job and know that you will discover these things and improve them.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Little to no micromanaging. I've had employers before that micromanage every aspect of your job to the point of insanity, but Macy's allowed you to do your job.
    Laid back atmosphere.
Very nice employees. All of their employees seemed like they genuinely wanted to help you.

    Cons

Very disorganized. It was very hard to get information for different assignments. Especially if you picked up extra hours. Once we even had an alarm go off, and no one seemed to know what it was for.

    Advice to Management

Train more on the goings-on of the store. In my training sessions, the videos were mostly about diversity in the workplace, and not actual training for my job.

    I worked at Macy's part-time

    Pros

The option of advertising you schedule and pay is ok.

    Cons

No hours and when scheduled the hours are 3-4 hour shifts.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more or at least some with your employees. Make them feel like an importance to the company.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

20% employee discount - But you must use your Macy's credit card to receive discount.
Ability to pick up extra shifts - Although this doesn't really apply to the Receiving area.
    Flexible scheduling

    Cons

Management seem more concerned with the bottom line, instead of taking care of the customer. They are always saying that Macy's is a multi-BILLION dollar company. So, they empower the Sales Associates to "take care of the customer." They can take expired coupons or give the coupon discount to items that are exclusions (like EDVs). But, they will not authorize extra hours for the Receiving/Processing Team and the Merchandising Team to process the truck and get the items to the floor. SO...many items sit on the dock or in a stockroom, instead of being on the floor for the customers to buy. Our dock is currently about 2 months behind. We got behind before Easter and have never caught up, In the meantime, Mother's Day, Prom. Graduation, and Memorial Day have passed without us being able to get caught up. Father's Day is quickly approaching and there still has been no push to get the merchandise out. It has come to our attention that things are actually being marked down/clearanced before they ever reach the floor. That is absolutely ridiculous!

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to earn a bonus for keeping our hours down. Female managers need to dress a tittle more conservatively. Just because they make the item in black, doesn't mean that it is appropriate for work. Stop wearing legging/jeggings. But, if you must, make sure that your shirt is long enough to cover your backside. Tank tops, without a shirt on top, and flip flops are not appropriate either.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many different positions to apply for and move laterally.
The general Macy's culture is positive and upbeat.
Lots of incentives for sales positions.
A cheerleady/pep rally type of atmosphere.

    Cons

It is hard to get promoted.
They will easily replace you if needed.
You can work in one position for many years doing a good job without option to advance in career.
The company in general is making a lot of cut backs

    Advice to Management

Care more about your hardworking employees.
