Advice to Management
You really need to take a better look at your internal systems and see who you're promoted...
I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)
Pros
Very friendly coworkers. People help each other.
Cons
Hard to get promoted. Poor pay for software development.
I worked at Macy's (More than 3 years)
Pros
Busy work place. Kind people
Cons
Too slow. Must work holidays
I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)
Pros
Flexible work schedule, good hours
Cons
I was fired from Macy's because I failed too open enough credit card accounts for the company. It wasn't for lack of trying; Nearly every customer I solicited very bluntly turned me down, or they were there to close an existing account. The location I worked for closed down maybe a year after I was let go, because of declining sales. I had just found out I was pregnant a few weeks before they fired me, and I strongly believe that had something to do with it. I do not recommend working for this company. They do not appreciate their employees.
Advice to Management
Don't punish employees for customer decisions. Also, it's not okay to alter sales goals when a customer returns an item and then punish the selling employee for the return. It's no wonder your company is failing so badly.
I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 5 years)
Pros
Great co-workers; Nice employee discounts makes for a great employee perk; It's nice to have a flexible work schedule
Cons
Working on Thanksgiving day. People over profit. This is a time for families.
Advice to Management
Spend more time showing associates authentic appreciation
I worked at Macy's (More than a year)
Pros
latest technologies, great mentoring and interesting projects
Cons
The job culture could use some changes
I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)
Pros
Met some great people. Fun fasted paced environment once you get the hang of everything. I loved helping people find what they needed.
Cons
The beauty management was looking for ways to be rude. The point system made us lose a lot of good people and they were replaced with people who brought our store down. Made working the job a lot harder than necessary. The return policy was terrible. You definitely should be paid more for the amount of work you have to do.
Advice to Management
Stop letting people return anything. Stuff with animal fur and that smelled like cold smoke, or things that people found in their closet from years ago should not be allowed to be returned.
I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)
Pros
Some of the managers (those who were promoted from sales floor) are super helpful & supportive
Associates are mostly very friendly
Cons
A lot of competition & bad feelings between associates in RTW even if they are on team goals and not individual goals
Some managers don't really do much
Very understaffed
Advice to Management
We've become more and more understaffed to the point where there aren't enough people to keep the store running. Customers complain constantly about not being able to find associates, the fitting rooms and floor are a mess, and we cannot keep going this way. This is not the way to cut costs, it's killing your business. Even Walmart is cleaner. Hire more staff and pay them more and maybe you will get customers who actually want to come back.
I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)
Pros
New work from home policy
Great associate discounts
Most of the people on the ground-level are great to work with
Cons
Difficult to get new ideas through the pipeline
Tug-o-war game of control and decision making between eat and west coast offices
Many of the managers play favorites which makes it nearly impossible to advance in your career
Pay is sub-par
Medical/Dental/Vision is the WORST
