    Cons

The hours are not the best. The holidays will keep you there longer and later hours.

    Advice to Management

Make sure people can be home on time (especially during the holidays). Work more on team effort.

I worked at Macy's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Workers are able to manage their schedules online which gives them freedom to adapt their lives better.

    Cons

Greed among workers makes the environment very difficult to manage and negatively affect customer services.

    Advice to Management

I believe that customers will be much better served and the work environment would be much healthier if management makes a pool of the total worker's commission and divide it equally per hour.

I have been working at Macy's part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Macy's provides great entry level or re-entry to retail sales experience. Flexible hours enable as much or as little work hours, as desired.

    Cons

The downside to Macy's is minimal. The store credit card incentives should be higher. Employees are urged to open credits weekly. The charity events are imposing. Associates who have worked in one area for a long time need to be more helpful & less greedy. Animosity between employees is a deterrent to most customers. Every associate is expected to work weekends. Eight-10 hour shifts are too long.

    Advice to Management

Please teach associates to be true team players. Sharks are often allowed to take advantage of minnows. More advancement opportunities are needed. Big gap between managers & regular sales crew. Pay better percentages to commissioned associates who exceed sales goals. Part timers rarely have management opportunities.

    I have been working at Macy's part-time

    Pros

Great place to gain some experience. They are flexible with your schedule if you have school or other priorities. You just have to inform them of what hours you can work.

    Cons

A lot of times there are not enough sales associates on the floor. So at times you have to leave your department to go help someone in another department.

    Advice to Management

Have more coverage on the floor on the busy days rather then the slower days. This way when the customers need help they do not have to go to go searching for someone.

I have been working at Macy's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Flexible Schedules Benefits Commissions Working with Customers/Associates The Management and Human Resources care about their workers and want to listen.

    Cons

The Pay The hours you're assigned. But if you're lacking in hours, you can always go online and pick out a shift. The sales goals can sometimes screw you over. Your goals force you to compete with other associates, because sharing departments with other coworkers can potentially set you behind. If a customer makes a return then you get punished for it. No commission guarantee - You are most likely to get... commissions if the customer did not return the item you sold him within 6 months. If he did, you just lost commissions. You are required to open up credit cards every week, or else you could lose your job. My store required 1 credit account open per 10 hours worked. It's an unrealistic goal because 80% of my customers have a card, and the rest don't want anything to do with it. -You are forced to basically kiss up to angry customers, even the most dishonest ones.

    Advice to Management

Stop requiring associates to open credit card accounts for people, and instead reward them for doing it. Don't punish associates by taking away commisions or increasing their sales goals just because customers return merchandise that they rang up. It's not their fault.
