    I worked at Macy's full-time

    Pros

You get to make your own schedule!! Coworkers were helpful and you get a point system to take days off or call off when you decide to.

    Cons

Downside was management. Our manager was not always fair to employees unless you were their favorite. Might not be all places.

    Pros

Being able to socialize with co-workers and clients

    Cons

    1.THE MANAGERS:
If you look too pretty, the Cosmetics Managers will not hire you. Also, you can’t be too opinionated or intelligent because that will anger them too.

    2. OPERATIONS:
There was never any hot water in those bathrooms. There was always heavy dust everywhere.
The stock room was very hazardous with boxes stacked anywhere, anyhow.

    3. LOW PAY, HARD WORK:
As a Cosmetic Counter Manager, I did not expect to also be a Stock Associate and HouseKeeper. Not only did I have to run a counter by myself, I also had to maintain it and carry heavy boxes up and down stairs to replenish stock. I was also in charge of recording the inventory. Big difference in money and duties from when I used to work at Herald Square.

    4. FAVORTISM:
Most of the Associates (including management) have been there dog years. So if you’re not exactly like them , they will make you feel singled-out and do corrupt things such as hold back rewards that you earn when you reach your sales goals, and then lie about it when confronted.

    5. NUMBERS MATTER ONLY
During my 9 months there, I complained 3xs to Human Resources and they never helped. I was constantly being bullied and harassed by management but all the company cared about was that I was no longer meeting my sales goals (to get a lousy 3% commission).

    Advice to Management

Take some courses on social etiquette and effective leadership.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed Environment, decent pay for counter managers depending on the line.

    Cons

The building needs to be remodeled. Expectations are too high and store manager is overbearing. No room for growth.

    Advice to Management

    Remodel store and selling structure.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

So short handed so you learn it all....YOU DO NOT HACE A CHOICE! Pretty good about giving you time off when requested ahead of time....IF your manager likes you. Middle management at the store is usually nice, and Ive had a very good store manager when I started....3 in 3.5 years !!!

    Cons

So horribly run, the MOST NEGATIVE place you COULD EVER WORK AT!! Did I mention upper management does not acknowledge workers when they visit? We work in retail, we're NOT doctors! Stupid Points System....even if you are sick you can NOT call off, you lose points and PAY! Also if you lose ALL your points you lose your job.
Macys is in awful shape and eliminated great talent. Those they kept have to do 5 jobs...oh and clientele, and open cards! Basically they are being run into the ground... Macys mentality in upper management is totally OUT OF TOUCH and could NOT do an everyday workers job if they waned to. NO CLUE how to actually work.

    Advice to Management

Its sad what Macy's has become, culturally obsolete!! They've lost they way! They were known for low pay and sub par employees, but its at an all time low. I hope they make it in retail, but I do NOT think so. Their fashion for the most part is cheap and tacky! Stores are full of racks with awful clothes no one would ever want to buy or wear!
Employer advice......Treat your employees well, and pay them REAL $ and you can retain good talent. Otherwise those you let go of, or leave because its so awful, will find great jobs and take talent elsewhere! You are NOT focusing on your customers when you employ and run your stores with skeleton crews! When you pay insulting wages, you get and keep low paid employees that do NOT CARE! I learned a lot because my store was so poorly staffed and run, but besides that my experience was absolutely awful!! Its too bad when you take over beloved stores like LS Ayers and Marshall Fields and ruin them!!
Its only a matter of time before Macys dies along with like retailers.
