I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Set day off every week.

    Cons

Long hours. Little or no recognition. With job cuts you are doing the work of 5 people every day but you are not compensated enough. Late nights and weekends.

    Advice to Management

Start recognizing and promoting your people. Talk to your associates as people don't yell and badger.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The pros are:
flexibility- you can work different shifts and depending on the time of year/season, there are a lot of available shifts
weekly pay- you get a check every week
location- there is a store within a small radius in the state of California so it's easily accessible
    They are always hiring
It's a stepping stone and not all stores are the same.

    Cons

    The cons
Management- the worst part about Macy's is the people who would make great managers choose not to and the people who are in management are not going to treat you in a way that you feel respected. It can be very hard on your esteem if you are looking at upward mobility and do not feel valued, have not been trained, only get feedback that is criticizing you and the culture is cut throat.
You may apply to work in a department and find that you are put in another department, stock room or somewhere else if you are seeking specific experience in the place you apply.
You may get stuck working longer than anticipated or find that you don't get treated fairly.
There is a lot of nepotism and favoritism.
You need thick skin or a good support system because it can get depressing knowing the amount of back stabbing, biased and mean girl/boy behavior that happens.

    Advice to Management

Management is part of the problem. You know what the problems are but choose not to look at what your part is. There is no advice you are not aware of already needed to improve the current custom.
Corporate needs to stop telling the managers/stores when they are coming to visit because you see a false representation of the actual store operations, you see things according to a week's planning and not as they are. Visit stores when no one expects you if you want the reality.

    I worked at Macy's full-time

    Pros

You get to make your own schedule!! Coworkers were helpful and you get a point system to take days off or call off when you decide to.

    Cons

Downside was management. Our manager was not always fair to employees unless you were their favorite. Might not be all places.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Being able to socialize with co-workers and clients

    Cons

    1.THE MANAGERS:
If you look too pretty, the Cosmetics Managers will not hire you. Also, you can’t be too opinionated or intelligent because that will anger them too.

    2. OPERATIONS:
There was never any hot water in those bathrooms. There was always heavy dust everywhere.
The stock room was very hazardous with boxes stacked anywhere, anyhow.

    3. LOW PAY, HARD WORK:
As a Cosmetic Counter Manager, I did not expect to also be a Stock Associate and HouseKeeper. Not only did I have to run a counter by myself, I also had to maintain it and carry heavy boxes up and down stairs to replenish stock. I was also in charge of recording the inventory. Big difference in money and duties from when I used to work at Herald Square.

    4. FAVORTISM:
Most of the Associates (including management) have been there dog years. So if you’re not exactly like them , they will make you feel singled-out and do corrupt things such as hold back rewards that you earn when you reach your sales goals, and then lie about it when confronted.

    5. NUMBERS MATTER ONLY
During my 9 months there, I complained 3xs to Human Resources and they never helped. I was constantly being bullied and harassed by management but all the company cared about was that I was no longer meeting my sales goals (to get a lousy 3% commission).

    Advice to Management

Take some courses on social etiquette and effective leadership.
