I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers, extra employee discount, and great Human Resource department

    Cons

Slower and slower retail, stock is not replenished for small cosmetics counters in middle America

    Advice to Management

It is a shame they way Macys is trending and recording their business. All the stores are basically becoming warehouse jobs.

Management is very helpful and supportive

    Cons

Cosmetics was stretched thin, sometimes I was working two counters by myself during the busy hours

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

such a great job for a student. I was able to pick up shifts when I wanted to and in whichever departments I wanted to. They understood that I was in school so didn't have high expectations for the # of hours I'd work in a week

    Cons

other people on the fragrance/cosmetics department were severely racist; a couple of them made derogatory comments towards an Indian couple after they had rung them out, unaware that I'm Indian.

I worked at Macy's (More than a year)

    Pros

No pros. The posting for Lancome Counter Manager position is completely deceiving. They left out that the only other lancome staff member is one p/t employee. They forgot to mention that one person man's the entire cosmetic department because they are understaffed. They just latex off more employees and have the nerve to post this job as if it's a fabulous opportunity. MACYS is a joke. Shame on you for pretending you have a wonderful opportunity to offer when all you really have to offer is a understaffed , poorly run, over worked cashier .

    Cons

Ridiculous scheduling system. Zero to none foot traffic . Poor management on all levels . Never solve in house problems . Low pay. If you work at one cosmetic counter, you will work at all the unmanned counters . Most counters have no employees so you run from brand to brand all day. There are never clothing cashiers so customers constantly complain . Sometimes hours will go by w out one customer . This store is physically outdated and the staff , all the way up to so called management is a joke . I guess that's why macys is on its way out. Get a clue macys .

    Advice to Management

Try paying attention to the needs of your employees . Solve problems, don't ignore them. Make employees accountable for their behavior . Most of all, open your eyes . Your concept of what you expect in that ridiculous environment is a joke .

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are amazing, flexible schedules, options for hours worked for the week.

    Cons

The company has no future, advancement opportunities are extremely limited, pay rate is low, management is disorganized, sales goals are disporportionate to store traffic... Could keep going.

    Advice to Management

Value employees and reduce the number of random sales throughout the year.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great group of girls at the counter. Management was very friendly at the beginning and slowly they brought in new managers who just made it barely tolerable. The salary was pretty decent and choosing your schedule was easy. You could switch with co workers very easily and everyone gets to work the shift they prefer! Sales were easy to make on weekends and holidays!

    Cons

Retail hours and sales goals. They were sticklers for opening credit cards and it really took a toll on the salespersons performance numbers if they didn't open enough. It was very stressful to have to harass costumers about credit cards when you already know they don't want one. Pre-sales and events were also annoying, they made you call your customers every two weeks or so for some event or other and many felt very bothered.

    Advice to Management

Find more effective ways to reach out to customers other than cold calling because it is not well received. Also, come up with better incentives for employees to bust their butts opening credit cards.
