    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Fun upbeat place to work, co-workers were fun to work with. Management was great to work with from department to general manager. The best retail job I have ever had sad to see places like this closing due the changing times

    Cons

    Had to leave due to major medical issue not related to job. Low wages

    Advice to Management

    Sad to see a great American retail going through hard times. This is one of great ones I hope doesn’t totally close up.

    Guidelines in place that help prevent bad apprehensions

    Weekly pay

    Fun team and managers depending on location

    Cons

    No opportunity for growth as a detective

    Low base pay compared to other retailers

    Higher tier stores open earlier and close later

    I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Customers, coworkers are great and some managers are cool too. Corporate listens to suggestions. Good discounts for employees, decent health benefits for employees. Meetings everyday to let the team know how they are doing. New store manager is thoughtful, and speaks to employees with respect.

    Cons

    Not enough employees, high turnover, but there are some who have over 20 years of experience, however all staff is overworked and overwhelmed particularly the managers, lots of managers are leaving even upper management changes every two years. Moral is low, HR is a joke. Customers can’t use coupons too many sales are going on at one time. Corporate needs to take heed of suggestions. It would be great to have corporate do an Under Cover Boss type of situation so that improvements can be made, not only for employees but customers too.

    Advice to Management

    Keep your word to employees, don’t give them a lot of fluff then change things for the worst. Dig into different departments find the weakness and implement improvements from employees suggestions. Stop having concurrent sales, such as specials, regular sales and last act all together. “Under Cover Boss” will solve lots of issues.

    Pros

    Macy's offers a good discount and the opportunity to earn extra "Macy's Money" to spend on products.

    Cons

    Retail hours, especially long at Macy's which stays open later and often opens earlier than the rest of the mall.

    Advice to Management

    More can be done to make employees feel valuable and encourage greater teamwork and a sense of ownership.

    Your people are the heartbeat of your organization. Learn who they are, coach them to amazing results, hold them accountable to their responsibilities, and see the customers' needs through the people in the building

    Pros

    Clinique gives amazing gratis multiple times a year. Macys discounts are nice, coworkers are great, sales rock, you get your discount on everything.

    Cons

    Management sucks, they yell about everything. They have unrealistic expectations. All they care about is credit card loyalty, and goals.

    Advice to Management

    Don't just yell at employees. Coach them like you are suppose to.

    Room for growth in the company, great team, PTO for part time employees, employee discount is very good, fragrance 50% of discount twice a year, discount on cosmetics, good management, seasonal opportunities to work in other departments for pay raise, attendance point system, most managers are helpful with attendance exceptions, empowering

    Cons

    demanding work, alot to recover and clean up, often rude customers, hr team was very unhelpful at store level but at corporate level they were great

    Advice to Management

    Don't eliminate recovery team like my store had, hire more recovery team members, hire seasonal employees that actually want to work and are reliable, try to prevent a pileup of clothing rods so that employees are not overwelmed, understand how often employees are overwhelmed
