I worked at Macy's (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You meet good people that are willing to put in hard work and have pride in their job, discount is good plus coupons, and if you just need some extra cash, this job is ok.

    Cons

Young managers that have just graduated college and finished training tend to be disrespectful, some managers are fair, they play favorites(not in a good way), cut hours(which is bad for part-timers and on call workers), eliminated job positions, no job growth if you're look for a career path, and when it come to going to HR for any problems its a waste of time, because they will either give you the runaround or they'll fill the script and make it look like your the problem.

    Advice to Management

To the younger Sales Managers, stop talking to your subordinates like children. Everyone in that store are 18 and older, so just because you are a Manager that has training, it does not mean you know more than the Associate that's worked in Retail 5, 10, 15, 20 years. Bottom line, respect need to be put into play.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free samples if you work in cosmetics.
Plenty of breaks Scheduled into your day
    Flexible hours
Always able to pick up extra hours
great point system for lateness and online call out

    Cons

Part time people have very short shifts.
Some shifts are only 3 hours long. Extended hours for the months before the holidays. Black out days all of December so you cannot take off a day That month and half of November. Mandatory schedule for black Friday and thanksgiving. Management is always very busy
you're basically by yourself to try and have coverage even when it's your first week. They fire people at weird times. The women are super cut throat and catty Even if they are With your same vendor. Upper management forces credit applications and myclient entry and are really pushy about it to customers.

    Advice to Management

Let up on the myclient system. Train the people who work there and make more time for one on one coaching. Do not fire people over credits or snow storms.

    Pros

You will get a pay check.

    Cons

Employees are forced to get very high productivity scores that the employees feel forced to fight over sales on the sales floor.

    Advice to Management

Be more supportive to your employees and do not change their schedules at the last minute without telling them first and get better on that attendance credit points system and stop terminating so many employees with your credit system...
