    Pros

    - Very flexible
    - Allowed for time off
    - They gave good recognition on jobs that were done well
    - The ability to earn commission off of sales of shoes, and fragrances is an added bonus
    - Weekly give aways to the employees who worked hard, and achieved their sales goals
    - Large give aways of up $1000 in the store
    - The manager made sure the employees were safe
    - Called to allow employees to have the option of not coming in to work because of black ice on the roads
    - 20% discount on all goods, plus discount with using the card

    Cons

There really aren't too many downsides to working at Macy's West. Other than that you can expect to make minimum wage when you start, and it takes awhile to advance, but thats like most places. Another downside is having to stand all day, which can be a bother on your feet especially if your shoes are uncomfortable.
Another downside is sometimes you get a customer who is extremely rude, and you have to be able to put on a happy face, and take being berated at for some obscure problem that you may or may not have been involved with.

    Advice to Management

I would say for them to continue what they're doing. They did a good job of making sure the employees were safe and taken care of, and didn't demand them to do anything that was out of their job description.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Seasonal job helps with money for students and others who need it.

    Cons

Management at my store was biased and unfair to new employees and favored long time employees regardless of work ethic and work preformed.

    Advice to Management

    Get new management.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers and managers are, by in large, nice and nice to work with. Atmosphere is busy

    Cons

Off the clock required lunch breaks & shorter shifts make it hard to get that many hours. I've been working 6 days/week just to get 40 hrs. Minimum wage. Same playlist on repeat every day. Christmas music.

    Advice to Management

Not that corporate will actually read this but maybe chill on your prices so you don't go out of business? Regular clothes are extremely expensive here unless there are a bunch of sales. Also, the customers get really annoyed when their coupons don't work on 3/4ths of the merchandise...

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Schedule, Vacation , Benifits

    Cons

High Turnover due to lack of training.

    Advice to Management

Take time to train your new hires. Especially executives, and those who's been with the company learn to respect, listen to others opinions. And when someone say hello Answer them! You are in that position because in the beginning you showed respect and leadership and you cared. So be a role player to your employees!!

    Pros

Typically you know when all the good sales are and if it's slow you can kind of shop.

    Cons

The employee discount is basically nothing unless you're spending over 100 dollars. 20%, and you HAVE to use a Macy's card in order to receive the discount.

    Advice to Management

Don't just throw in the employees to see if they sink or swim, help them.

    I worked at Macy's part-time

    Pros

Commission. Flexible (ish) hours. Ability to make a lot of money if you're dedicated. Good training.

    Cons

Had to work entire weekends. Hard to request time off. Couldn't change my availability. Hard to find people to pick up shifts.

    Advice to Management

Let employees change their availability more than twice a year.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Hardly any. You get a 20% employee discount which isn't great but they sometimes run other discounts for employees so you can get some merchandise very cheap.

    Cons

Horrible management - no support from above not an inclusive or open work culture. Store manager was disassociated from employees and acted like a god. Department managers were horribly petty, most of them had worked at the same store for 10+ years.
Selling credit is basically the only thing that matters to management. Employees are ranked against one another in unfair sales matrix which does not foster a team environment. Overall, it was just a horrible place, the only good it did was to motivate me to finish my degree so I could have a career in a company without such a toxic environment.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so full of yourselves, promote an open door policy and a culture of open communication. Be willing to get out on the floor and do the work of your employees. Retail is hard enough dealing with difficult customers let alone a company culture that forces employees to compete against each other to ring up sales and open credit cards.
