    Pros

Great company to work for with great products and great people. I enjoyed my time at Macy's because of the great atmosphere.

    Cons

Working in retail, you will always deal with crazy customers, especially at times when you are unable to deal with them.

    Advice to Management

At my location, management was great. Everyone should emulate this atmosphere by making it a low pressure environment.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salaried managers get 4 weeks paid vacation. Health benefits are okay and 401k is good. Paying a decent wage even if you don't have a college degree.

    Cons

Depending on who you report to since you are salaried they will work you to death. You're scheduled to work 40 hours a week but mostly end up working 60 or more or working at least 10 or 20 hours from home all week.

    Advice to Management

Be clear about what you want done and what you don't want done don't give people more projects and 15 minutes before they're supposed to leave for the day or three big projects before they go on vacation. Pay attention to your store managers that's why you have such a large turnover.

    Pros

Great discount, easy to work there, they pay better than most companies. Easy to move on up in the company,

    Cons

Points system is terrible, schedule is all over the place and inconsistent. The equipment and pos need to be completely redone.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-My store in Freehold, NJ, was so crazy that it prepared me for the absolute worst in retail
-Helpful and convenient online scheduling system allows you to swap/pick up shifts with fellow employees; makes it easy to make your own schedule

    Cons

-Management cares about the customer's happiness, which is great, but ONLY the customer's happiness. Little is done to improve employee's satisfaction in the workplace.
    -Employees are very expendable

    Advice to Management

Value and treat your employees with respect! For many of them, this is more than just a job.

    Pros

It's a job. Most peers are very nice. Get to meet new people.

    Cons

The upper management has a way to make you feel not good about yourself. Nothing is ever good enough. They always want more and more.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to micro-manage. Have some trust in your Sales Managers.

    Pros

Benefits and Discounts. Workplace culture changes store to store, manager to manager. It's not horrible.

    Cons

You are a grunt. You do a lot of work and are expected to do a lot with extremely low pay. Zero promotion unless you are close with someone

    Advice to Management

Your employees are very valuable. Treat them better and treat them like humans and you'll get a lot more out of them.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

None. I had an overall horrible experience working at Macys, to the point where everyone I know has noticed a complete change in my personality.

    Cons

I was hired a little over a year ago now, and even though I was always making my goal and trying my best to commit to the "Magic of Macys," my recently changed department manager tried to fire me for an "attitude" problem, which no other manager or associate I worked with believed I had. For various reasons, I believe this occurred because I was very proud that I was gay, and even though no other associate cared about it, it was obvious this manager did. And every time I tried to mention this illegal discrimination to management, they always blew me off. I know Macys is a supportive of gay rights across the country, and I thank them for that, but something needs to change with some of these managers at this store or they will give Macys in general a bad name.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to employees. They are your money makers. Stop telling them you don't know the answers to EVERYTHING. It makes you look useless and we wonder why we actually need managers if the computer does everything for us and you don't know anything.
