    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I learned a lot at Macy's. I've worked in almost every department in the store and learned a lot from each. The coworkers, even though they liked to gossip a lot, were really nice and management was alright. It was a good first job.

    Cons

As a seasonal employee, I knew I was going to be let go eventually but I was personally offered a position in jewelry that never had a followup. I also had to call myself to be told that I wasn't working there anymore; I wasn't able to sign in to Insite for some reason so I called the store manager and I was told "Yea. The system deactivates accounts of those who no longer work here. Since you were seasonal, you were let go. Hope to see you next winter."

    Advice to Management

I would have a bit more lenience with how the employees work. Also, management should work together and not separately. It really weighs down on the employees.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I had friendly co-workers and many of the repeat customers were pleasant.

    Cons

A lack of training. I was not given "Buddy Training" or associate training. Management is unclear. They will tell you one thing one moment and later you will be told something else. They accuse you of deliberately doing something wrong when they never told you it was wrong. It makes no difference what you say their minds are already made up.

    Advice to Management

If an employee is doing something wrong come right out and say it. Do not just hint at it. Don't fire someone when you never bothered to tell them it was wrong and let them do it over a month before finally taking the employee into the office and telling them they had done anything wrong.

    Pros

Co workers were very nice and helpful for new employees. Customers was pleasurable to help, except for when Macy's have theirs super sales, then a lot of custombers want to know whay Macy's, as a corporation, can do for them. What nerve?

    Cons

The two female assistant managers were very controling and expected you to be able to do everything all at the same time. Repremanded you if you didn't chase down every customer, but yet when you attempted to chase down the customers, then the manager jumped down your throat for not getting the dressing rooms cleaned up at all times. I never received any praise for working hard for such little wages. Frankly I could not believe the whopping $8.00 they were paying me. I was an on call employee which was to allow you to choose your own hours and this worked out fine except when you can't work on "their required" days, like Black Friday. I wasn't told this when I hired on and when I was unable to work because my regular 40 hour a week required me to work, needless to say I no longer work there. I just quit picking up hours. It's a good thing this job was for extra money and I wasn't dependent on this income.

    Advice to Management

The store manager was very pleasant to work for along with the two male assisnt managers. So my advise would be for these two female assistan managers pay attention to how the male managers handle themselves and act accordingly or for upper managment replace these two managers. I don't see that happening.
