I worked at Macy's (More than a year)

    Pros

Interacting with customers and benefits were a plus

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discounts on many products, a few genuinely nice people, seems possible to transfer to other departments, great if you like to wear black. I am a good employee and stay because it is easier than haveing to go through any process of seeking employment elsewhere.

    Cons

In all seriousness, it is a disastrous place to work, run by controlling badgers, who constantly only want you to sell "Loyalties" which are two credit cards, a temporary membership of sorts, etc. It is a very Employees, benefits, management, micro-management (including just associates when supervisors are off), dirty, snake-like people in commission positions, deceptive employees here and there creating false issues and reporting to Loss Prevention in order to try and get folks fired that they don't like, and, I could go on, but shan't. This is an honest review. The comments here do not reflect my actions, nor entire treatment towards me, but do illustrate truth at this Macy's, I'm sorry to say.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees entire comments before controlling the situation into an accusation in which never happened. "Instruct" employees away from the public and co-workers. Do not give 40 hours to the trouble-makers and shifty folk ( great word) and mid-twenties hours to great , honest, hard-working employees. Learn how to not belittle others, never assume you know the background of an employee and then treat them like a 15-year old who knows nothing...about anything, when in fact, they may have by far, greater experience than you. When giving "awards" , make it something worthwhile, not something which cost nothing. This is Macy's! Again, an honest review.

    Pros

Discount is really good and you earn Macy's money when you open store accounts

    Cons

Not much room for growth, you tend to work by yourself in a department and it gets crazy dealing with multiple customers and putting clothes away at the same time

    Advice to Management

Have more people on the sales floor

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    20% Star Rewards discount card
Decent pay for part time employees
Long hours if you picked shifts early in the week

    Cons

High chance you will have lazy unappreciative GMs
Employees do not look out for one another
Selecting your shifts can be close to impossible sometimes

    Advice to Management

Learn how to thoroughly train your employees. I received 1 hour of training & was expected to work multiple positions on the sales floor, which obviously did not end well.

    Pros

We were able to make our own schedule on-line for the holiday season. It was great to be able to pick your own hours! All the other seasonal workers were great to work with!

    Cons

If you didn't sign on by 7am to pick your schedule there were barely any hours left. I was planning on going for atleast 20 hours a week and barely got 10.
