    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's very easy to switch departments or counters if something else catches your interest. My managers were all amazing. The pay is very good if you work on commission and can sell a lot of product. The best part is flexibility on scheduling. They have an online system where you can advertise, switch, and pick up shifts. This was the greatest thing about the company and I wish more jobs had this feature.

    Cons

It's retail and you have to do inventory and other things like that but it's a lot better than most retail jobs. When you work on commission it can get catty, but I didn't try to compete with anyone too much so I got along fine. Many people stepped all over each other though. Lastly they aren't the most ethical company which is why I left but let's be honest, they are a luxury company and most people who work there or want to work there probably don't care about sustainability!

    Advice to Management

Hire from within and not from the outside. That is the best way to run any business in my opinion, as long as the person is qualified for management of course.

    Negative Outlook

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible scheduling
Ability to pick up shifts & build your schedule
Friendly customers (at least at my store)

    Cons

Poor work environment due to competition among employees
Unrealistic personal sales goals and credit card goals
Managers get angry at employees when their department doesn't meet weekly goals
Employees are REQUIRED to harrass customers 3 times about opening a credit card

    Advice to Management

Scorecards completely ruin employee morale - it encourages competition, which makes the environment very poor!

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company discount is awesome. Advancement is possible from other positions to sales or management. They have a great non-discrimination policy and that includes people in the LGBT+ community. Great benefits for full time employees. Excellent training and support from other coworkers.

    Cons

Sometimes there's some disorganization during busy periods and the customers can be rowdy. Hours can be odd unless you are a full time employee.

    Advice to Management

Keep making sure that the management is consistent and all will continue to go well.

    Pros

If you want a fast moving job, merchandise for Macy's. Hard workers are moved up in rank quickly. Advancement in the company is encouraged if you are a fast, hard worker with great job ethics. Management seems to be fair and always looking to move you up in the company if so deserved.

    Cons

Sometimes the pay rates are over inflated to catch your interest, but then not delivered as described. Sometimes workers are expected to perform above their pay grade and it can be a little overwhelming. Rotation of areas worked in are constant and expect to do jobs not in the job description you were hired for. Expect to be scheduled out of your availability..happens often. Expect your schedule to change daily and hours cut at the end of week accordingly.

    Advice to Management

Thank the crew working on the dock....acknowledge them when you walk by them. Take a look at the pay rates paid to the hardest workers and adjust accordingly...not by length of time worked for you. The old rule of anybody is better than nobody is just that..old, over used and not fair to those that do more than just getting by with as little work as possible...get rid of them and give their hours to those that deserve them. Hire the amount of employees it takes to fill positions instead of stacking multiple positions on one person and expecting a "job well done" to be enough compensation.
