I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Macy's is RICH with tradition and heritage which makes you feel very proud to be a member of an American Icon. Macy's has a lot of power and weight in the industry which makes it fun to do your job. Macy's understands how important it is to truly focus on the customer and make "Magic" with everything you do. It isn't all about numbers, its about positive customer experiences which ultimately lead to results.

    Cons

Like any huge company, there are redundancies with jobs, which makes it difficult to get an answer to a problem or question. Although Macy's tries to move faster, due to the companies size, we often miss business opportunities that smaller competitors act quicker on. Macy's size and power is its greatest strength but also its greatest weakness.

    Advice to Management

Macy's is a truly fun company to work for however Macy's executives (not all) have difficulty embracing change, especially tenured members, making it difficult to innovate.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The discount is nice, you get to work with some cool people. There's usually always something to do. Commission pay during November and December was good.

    Cons

Unrealistic credit goals. Selling credit cards is your main job, not whatever it is you are hired for. In commission the returns count against you. The opportunity for advancement is not a real potential. Job performance is based solely on credit card sales.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the associates who work hard and say they want to move up despite their performance selling credit cards. Encourage growth, and be understanding. Help your associates and they will be more apt to helping you. Managing is knowing how to lead, not just telling people to do.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Like my early morning hours

    Cons

If you voice your concern about anything, they will cut back your hours! Management sticks together whether or not they are in the wrong!, they don't practice what they preach about discrimination or retaliation!! They show favoritism , which is completely unprofessional

    Advice to Management

Get both sides of story and start paying attention to who or what is really causing the problems in the work place! Start looking at who shows up on time and everyday and not on positions they are in. Check in on your staff every once in a while and see how everything is going before matters get worse.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

In commission, specifically women's shoes, you can make a lot of money during the holidays, and a lot of the time the associates are very friendly.

    Cons

The emphasis on selling credit cards is extreme. It really doesn't matter how hard you work. Of you're not selling enough credit cards they send you to a "credit university" which is as condescending as it is insulting. The management is click-ish and lazy. If you're not in a managers friend group you're not getting promoted. The customers can also be horrible (but that's kinda true everywhere... But its extra true here).

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate you're management style. The management crisis at the store (and the store is in crisis mode) starts at the top. Management needs to stop pushing its responsibilities onto its associates and do their job themselves.
