I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Macy's has grown a lot over the past few years. They are on the cutting edge of the retail world by merging online shopping with the in store experience. I also trust the senior leadership (CEO/CFO). They also offer 4 weeks of vacation to management from the beginning. And a very flexible schedule.

    Cons

Macy's has cut a lot of district level positions over the past few years as they are streamlining with the switch to more online sales focus. This has added more workload to the the regional level executives and the in store selling managers. This also has made promotional opportunities lower, and the company has started hiring more people from outside. While the schedule is flexable, you do work on average more like 50-60 hour weeks. And the pay is not competitive with other big box stores. The expectation with workload is also mostly impossible to ever complete. The company wants you on the floor 80% of the time, however, the amount of things required to complete make that difficult. The associate scheduling system (Krono's software) was created to take the scheduling away from managers, however, a good portion of the week is spent trying to fix the scheduling issues for associates. Associates also are expected to perform at a level above their pay grade. Competition often lures away associates because of higher wages. This makes it often times complicated for the selling managers caught in between upper management and HR wanting to lower turn and having that reflection on them.
