I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is great to work for. They still believe in catching shoplifters and internal investigations, not hammering associates with red tape, paper work and at times pointless audits like other companies.

    Cons

Upper management, at the district level, needs to reconnect with what goes on inside the stores.

    Pros

20% Discount all the time + coupons if you're lucky
    Energetic management
Most Macy's patrons are pleasant to work with
No schedule requests for part time, but online scheduling makes it beyond easy to work with your availability.

    Cons

Training all on a computer, first few weeks will consist of requesting help from co-workers
Sales goals are sometimes unrealistic, many times because of glitches in the computer system
Lots of employees = Getting lost in the crowd... Difficult to stand out if your goal is to move up

    Advice to Management

Make sure new associates are kept up to date with how to keep up to date. It's impossible to be on top of everyone, but at least make sure everyone's aware where they can get important company info for themselves

  3. "Nice part-time job but terrible career although I loved the people I worked with!"

    Pros

    Discount on merchandise
    Co-workers are great
Cosmetics & shoes makes about 3% commission off each product sold which doesn't amount to much but it's better than no commission at all like the rest of the sales staff.

    Cons

Hours, Nights, Weekends, Holidays, you work exactly the times you don't want to be working.
    No true opportunities for advancement.
    Hourly wages, no salary.
Benefits take a big dip out of weekly checks.

    Advice to Management

Middle management is doing their best but upper management needs to make some major changes as far as creating careers for employees. No one can support themselves on a full time job that pays $10/hr 40 hrs a week.

    Pros

Strong repeat customer base. The store as a whole offers great sales. Strong brand names, easy to sell.

    Cons

The management as a whole does not have it together. The discount isn't great. Pressure to push credit card applications.

    Advice to Management

Have more respect for store associates. They make the sales happen.

    Pros

I love working with customers one-on-one, hearing their stories, and building relationships. And they usually don't make you stay late after a big sales day.

    Cons

Management has zero respect for any employee, they will screw you over any way possible and you won't know until it's too late.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees so they can respect your customers. If I am disrespected, it is so hard to turn around and totally help a customer.
