    Pros

Great benefits, fun work environment- people will become your family. Great opportunities for advancement if you work hard.

    Cons

Proven difficult to switch career paths if your interests change- there is favoritism to a certain extent and you must be able to manage through political environment to succeed and advance.

    Advice to Management

Follow the same advice that you give and always recognize your hardest working employees.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company with good benefits, generous amount of vacation days. Visible dedication to diversity. Commitment to learning & development.

    Cons

Sometimes excruciatingly long hours around holidays. Lots of internal promotion hype and, while absolutely true at store-level, it becomes infinitely more difficult to progress past that. Although learning & development opportunities abound, there hasn't really been an effective mentorship program for those looking to join district teams or beyond.

    Advice to Management

Corporate programs are wonderful for setting a standard model of behavior, however stores thrive when allowed to weigh paperwork, coaching, and training needs for their particular market and shift them accordingly. Sometimes it is abundantly clear that a particular company-wide program is simply not working, but stores must lumber on, bearing the burden of that program while unable to make the necessary edits that could effect real change. Exercise caution in the pursuit of company-wide uniformity; it is this result that often extinguishes the charm and singularity of each store.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people and the chance to work on cutting edge projects in the retail space

    Cons

    Loss of independence for Macys.com

    Advice to Management

Take care to ensure that the merger of MST and Macys.com doesn’t result in stifling innovation and creativity. The cultures of the two divisions were very different, and the merger has been a bumpy road for those of us used to a dot com kind of culture.
