I worked at Macy's full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Salary was good. The schedules were always in advance. The monthly meeting in the morning was a great experience, all departments come together to address who is up in sales and etc

      Cons

Have to have open availability. Not a job for someone as a single parent with no one helping them with there child. Unless you can do over night.

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

A well known company. Large scale projects. Lots of classes for personal development. Actual budgets to try new things (technology, marketing programs, partnerships). Some very smart people.

      Cons

Blatant age discrimination (look at the demographics of the last few rounds of layoffs). If you are a job seeker and over 50, don't bother applying. If you are over 50 and an employee, you can expect a severance package soon. Deeply entrenched fiefdoms and politics. Back stabbing and sabotage are routine. Zero chance for advancement unless your boss is over 50 and gets laid off.

      Advice to Management

Stop hiring high priced executives from other companies while making statements in the press that you are going to hire "more indians, fewer chief". Quit acting as if you are double parked waiting for the right company to swoop in and purchase the company. Fix online customer service. It's by far the worst of any online merchant I've ever shopped with.

      Pros

Vacation time and great peer friendship

      Cons

Senior Management only cares about themselves, does not spend time developing talent. The feedback is based on hear say and perceptions not facts.

I worked at Macy's for more than a year

      Pros

The schedule is flexible and peers are willing to assist with any issues.

      Cons

Human Resources is not helpful to associates or managers. They run you in circles trying to answer questions. Managers are treated like higher paid supervisors. No incentives to be a manager if you are an hourly associate other than increased pay.

      Advice to Management

Be a unified unit and stop working against each other. Human Resources needs an overhaul they are inconsistent and do not add value until there is a complaint from an associate.
