I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They don't put too much responsibility on each employee, making for an easy job. Good flexible hours and ability to get overtime easily.

    Cons

Since there isn't much responsibility, it can be difficult to work with fellow lousy/lazy employees. Things are constantly changing, and with so many varying shifts you can't get out of the loop quickly on recent changes.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

peak is the season to bring in the big paychecks and that definitely helps out during the holidays.

    Cons

out of peak the job is very slow. cross training can move you all over the place. if you like consistency, the job is very inconsistent

    Advice to Management

A certain supervisor needs to not play favorites. Anyone who works there can tell you who she is with just that first sentence!

I have been working at Macy's (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy to get hired. When hiring they do not discriminate between age or race.

    Cons

The pay is not great for how much work is expected from you. You have to be able to stand on concrete floors for 8-12 hours a day. They hire to many new associates during peak, while reducing the hours for the core associates.

    Advice to Management

Communication is two way. Make sure that you are listening to your associate. Not just informing them about new changes after they are already in place.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Timely payment of salaries/wages
    Secured and safe work environment
    Friendly employees and understanding management

    Cons

Employees stand and walk around without any comfortable sitting arrangenent
No vehicles to convey employees who have no cars to where they can easily take transport home
No shelter for employees who have to catch buses or those who wait for rides in case of rain or snow.

    Advice to Management

For good employee relationship management shelters should be provided for pick-ups and drops of employees. At least a staff bus should be provided to convey staff without vehicles to the train station at close of business and pick those who need transportation to work in the morning from the train station.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They will basically hire anyone who walks in the door during peak season.

    Cons

If you are not Hot don't bother, the seasonal positions will never turn into full-time.

    Advice to Management

Shift supervisors play favorites all the time, maybe some real management would help.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good supervisor pay and seasonal hours

    Cons

Everything else. Terrible Seasonal HR associates. Managers that won't follow policies and procedures. A majority of the associates, especially seasonal are drug addicts.

    Advice to Management

Macys need to clean shop. There first terrible move was building a respected establishment in a town that is over-run by heroin and narcotics. They refuse to follow through with a urine test to the seasonal associates. Regular associates are terrified on going to work because of the chance of running into stds or confrontations with the drugs addicts. Because it was opened a little over three years ago, there picks for supervisors and managers are a joke. The benofits are outrageous but that's out of their control. Macys doesn't have a chance in that town because of the people who live in that area.
