    Pros

Fun , positive work environment, with incentives.

    Cons

Very busy near, and on holidays. Sometimes, open 24 hours.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, giving employees positive incwntives, like snacks, and catered lunch, or dinner, on holidays, when we work long hours. It is greatly appreciated!!

I worked at Macy's (Less than a year)

    Pros

The great American Department Store; OK orientation

    Cons

It's the retail drudge. If you've never worked in retail you're in for a surprise.

    Advice to Management

Create a new-hire easy to use reference document containing common processes that can be kept within reach. Returns, Exchanges, Purchases. Handling a variety of payment scenarios: credit card, personal check or cash; applying Star Rewards Putting away stock, reporting stock outages; special orders. I very little advance exposure to the products I would be selling. People would ask about them and sometimes I had to either ask for help from a more seasoned associate - or just read the product claims on packaging back to the customer. Finally, this is a very popular and busy store. When your co-worker is on-break, you're "it" when an onslaught hits. If you are new, it's particularly awful. People cool their heels, tsk-tsk you - and there is nothing you can do... but do your best. Remember this when you have a new-hire. This is a deal-breaker. People will leave.

I have been working at Macy's as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very Flexible schedule. Uses some technology.

    Cons

Very unprofessional environment. Managers have a tendency to talk down to employees. They say there is no difference between FTE and Seasonal employees but one wouldn't know that all based on the way they are treated.

The pay sucks in retail too.

    Advice to Management

Training and coaching. Live up to what you have said on paper in your mission and vision statements. It does not permeate through the firm nor the store.
