I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Interactions with great customers and co workers.

    Cons

Better needed notifications on sales for the flex. Management needs to learn how to ask for help on a task that doesn't have to do with employee

    Advice to Management

To ask for help with a side assignment you want an employee to do not force on them. Be a leader not a dictator.

    Cons

    Horrible co workers .
They promise you something and they don't really start trying too until you're on top of them .
Ask for way to many things for 9$ an hour .
The return policy it's absolutely horrible .
The draw they have for sales associates its horrible .

    Advice to Management

My managers is awesome so I honestly have zero complaints

    Positive Outlook

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent Learning Environment and your strengths will be magnified

    Cons

Extremely political and if you are not "in with the crowd" you will most likely not be selected to grow.

    Advice to Management

Stick to numbers and growing people, the environment in the larger stores is extremely fast paced and at times hectic. Politics has taken over and it now seems as if the people selected to grow are the ones who are favorites or politically inclined rather than the stronger and more global thinkers who produce positive numbers.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay is not bad. If you are willing to travel, your career will advance quicker.

    Cons

Certain districts and senior management promotes assumed potential versus for actually performance... Senior management fosters an environment where everyone is for themselves.

    Advice to Management

You need to work on diversity and inclusion in every level of the organization not just mid-senior management and below. It should be reflected in every district.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Autonomy on the sales floor. Really flexible scheduling once you get past your 90 days. If you take care of your co-workers, they should take care of you.

    Cons

Confusing management structure, resulting in bad/nonexistent management coverage. Lack of adaptation to modern retail realities. Lack of training of new associates, esp. in specialized departments, Pressure to open credits. You can tell that the company has lost its identity and can't decide to go fully upper middle tier to compete with Nordstrom; or drop to just being a step above JCPenny.

    Advice to Management

Stop pressuring associates to open credits. It shows ignorance of the economic reality. Train associates better. Either truly empower senior associates or improve management coverage. Pick an avenue of identity and stick with it.
